Our Top 5 Germany World Cup Shirts

We continue our countdown to Brazil by picking out the best World Cup football shirts from nations competing in the tournament this summer. This time we've scrolled back to select our top 5 favourite World Cup kits to sport the German badge.

5 | West Germany 1974

We're kicking off proceedings with a World Cup victory for the host nation. Gerd Müller and Paul Breitner (both pictured above) scored in the 2-1 win over Holland to lift the famous trophy and we've got a lot of time for that beautifully simplistic home shirt, complete with sewn on badge. Yeah, we'd wear this down the pub this summer, if we were German...

4 | USA 1994

The 1994 Germany home shirt perfectly sums up kit design in the 90's. Flamboyant, unique and all in double extra large. A time when designers had a license to do whatever they damn well liked. The adidas logo, the shiny finish, the typeface, all majestically tacky.

3 | France 1998

Still in the 90's, still wearing shirts four sizes too big for us. A new adidas logo was joined by three stripes running across the front of the jersey in the colours of the German flag and topped off with a deep V-neck. Ever noticed how Jurgen Klinsmann looks like Arsène Wenger crossed with a windswept peacock?

2 | South Africa 2010

As far as technical design goes, and what you'd actually wear on pitch this very day, the 2010 adidas shirt cleans up. Slim-fitting, classic combination of white, black and gold and subtle details to make it one of the cleanest, yet classiest shirts on show in South Africa for us.

1 | Italy 1990

Feast your eyes on our favourite Germany World Cup shirt of all time, a decision influenced by pure footballing nostalgia. That right there is the look of anger, disappointment and disbelief all rolled into one. The look of a man who has just had his regally conditioned perm spat on. As for the shirt, drink it in, they don't make them like that anymore.
