Our Top 20 2014/15 Football Shirts

With the 2014/15 football season rapidly approaching we're looking at an off-pitch battle decided before a ball is even kicked - Who has the best new kit? As brands up their game seeking out new inspirations for designs we've put together our top 20 shirts from bottom to top...

20 | Atletico Madrid Away -
Atleti's new away shirt is worthy of La Liga champions. Proving that grey doesn't always have to be dull the kit features a three tonal chevron design on the chest and delicate red trims on the collar and sleeves, which is complimented by a matching Swoosh. Just enough to creep out of the boring category.

19 | Boca Juniors Home -
The Boca Juniors badge is the clincher here. Nike have paired up the badge colour with the colour of the swoosh and central stripe to make it all nice and tidy. The two-buttoned grandad collar bumps it into the top 20.

18 | Bayern Munich Away -
This one's a bit of a grower we reckon. We weren't overly keen in the Bayern away shirt at first glance with the grey looking a little bit too 't-shirt' and the horizontal stripes always giving off that 'rugby' vibe but after we saw it on pitch we were converted.

17 | Monaco Home -
The diagonal split and old-school fold over collar fire the Monaco shirt into our list. The white sleeves and sponsorless chest aren't doing it any harm either. That chap on the far right won't be wearing it though.

16 | Spurs Away -
There's a bit too much yellow on the Tottenham home shirt for it to feature on this list for us but the away shirt can easily hold its own. We love a black kit and the 11 yellow stripes running down the front is a nice touch to the amount of trophies won by the club in the Bill Nicholson era. Oh, and Paulinho hates you.

15 | Real Madrid Away -
It's pink, but why does it work? It shouldn't, but it does and it's going to look immense on pitch. Yep, we like the new controversial Real Madrid away kit. Credit to adidas for going all out and doing something with sheer audacity.

14 | Galatasaray Home - The colour combo may not be everyone's first choice but Galatasaray's home kit is instantly recognisable in world football. The central Turkish badge, pin stripes and the fact it's sponsorless are big wins for us.

Some description

13 | Man City Home - Man City and Nike have shown how to do plain to effect with the new home shirt. A tidy little collar with matching cuffs, sponsor and Swoosh, an oversized crest, job done. It won't win any awards for design of the year but it's a classy showing for the Premier League Champions.

12 | PSG Home - What's harder than trying to find a needle in a haystack? Trying to find a bad PSG kit, that's what. Nike have whipped up another winning kit for the Ligue 1 champions this season that once again features that iconic stripe down the middle of the jersey.

Some description

11 | Roma Home - Any football shirt without a sponsor looks brilliantly retro and unpolluted and Nike's first bash at whipping up the Roma shirt is exactly that. Traditional buttoned, fold-over collar, faint pin-stripes running down the chest and deep yellow cuffs. They're happy on the inside, promise.

10 | Spartak Moscow Home - A bit of a wildcard entry from Spartak Moscow. The club move into their new stadium this summer and Nike have kitted them out in new home shirts that reflect the distinctive design of the Otkritie Arena. Combine that with the fact it looks awesome and you're onto a winner.

9 | Inter Milan Away - Inter Milan (who employ Serie A's shortest photographer) are one of those clubs who seem to have a knack of creating top looking football kits. The subtle St George's cross adorns the chest with red sponsor and matching Swoosh the icing on the cake. Best home and away combo this season? We've yet to see a better one.

8 | Juventus Away - The subtle graphic stars bump the Juve away strip into our top 10. Turin’s royal colors give the shirt a background story and the yellow Nike tick and collar to match the colour found on the Juve badge balanced the shirt perfectly. Exquisite enough for Andrea Pirlo himself.

7 | Arsenal Home - We've got a lot of love for the new Arsenal home shirt. PUMA have taken over the reins from Nike and they've kicked off the new Gooners era in style. White sleeves and the return of hooped socks. Solid start from PUMA.

Some description

6 | Borussia Dortmund Home - It's all about that dynamic design on the right hand side of the shirt. It's different, and different is good kids. Some times all you need is one feature and this works. Not too much, not to plain. Job done.

Some description

5 | Roma Away - Nike turned to the 1960's to seek inspiration for their fist ever Roma away shirt and it's a beauty. We can't get enough of the sash that runs diagonally from the shoulder through the crest. A beautiful combination of modern and retro characteristics.

Some description

4 | Chelsea Third - Just like last season's effort the new Chelsea third shirt packs a futuristic design to step away from the standard templates and install it as one of the most unique shirts in the Premier League this season. Top marks again for adidas.

Some description

3 | Everton Home - Umbro are back. The Everton home shirt features so high up the list mainly for nostalgia reasons. The classic English brand are back in the game, back where they belong and the famous double diamonds sit proudly on the Toffees 14/15 kits to send Evertonians into lucid daydreams of big Dunc running riot at Goodison.

Some description

2 | Inter Milan Home - Milan is the fashion capital of the world and that trend is reflected in the kits of the city's duo of heavyweight football clubs. The Italians are all about style and the new Inter home shirt moves away from tradition with a modern pin-stripe design and buttoned collar. Good enough to demand the right to play at home every week.

Some description

1 | AC Milan Away - adidas are owning the replica game this summer for us. The new AC Milan away shirt is wrapped up in class, elegance and personality, from the horizontal pin-stripes to the one off Casa Milan crest. The perfect blend of simplistic design finished with a few characteristics unique to the club to enhance identity. Enough to forgive Milan defenders for not making a single slide tackle all season.
