Nike Launch Two Limited Edition 'Golden Touch' Mercurials

In a case of doing what they do best, Nike drop a special edition Mercurial Superfly VI Elite and Mercurial Vapor XII – both titled “Golden Touch” and chromed out to the max in shining silver to honour Luka Modric and Kylian Mbappe's successes at the 2018 Ballon d’Or awards.

The Ballon d’Or is still arguably football’s most prestigious individual award, and since 2010 it has delivered the most decorated archive of limited edition boots thanks to Nike and adidas honouring Cristiano Roandlo and Leo Messi with limited edition designs of golden game. But this year is a little different as Luka Modric scoops the ultimate prize.

With both Modric and Mbappe in the running, Nike appear to have hedged their bets somewhat by creating a Mercurial Vapor and Superfly ready to drop as the announcement was made. As it happens Mbappe picked up the Kopa Trophy and Modric the Ballon d'Or, meaning that's a pretty decent excuse to release both – the Vapor for Modric, and the Superfly for Mbappe.

The boots themselves have a thumb print design that covers the entire upper, shining spectacularly in the black Swoosh in particular. The rest of the design goes against the title, presented top to toe in 'Pure Platinum' with a finger print design on the heel being accompanied by the Mercurial 'M' which in this case could stand for Modric or Mbappe. Tidy.

Just 1,500 pairs of each boot will drop at 8am on December 4 and neither are expected to hang around for long. So there we have it, the first Ballon d'Or celebration in ten years that was absent of a Messi or Ronaldo pole position.
