Represent's 247 line has spent the last few years building a reputation in performance running, but football was always the obvious next step. Now, that move has finally arrived with the launch of the PUMA x 247 ULTRA NITRO 7 ULTIMATE, a collaboration that sees the Manchester brand enter the football boot space for the very first time.
Fronted by Liverpool and Netherlands forward Cody Gakpo, the release is the latest chapter in a partnership that has steadily evolved between PUMA and Represent, moving from the roads and gym floors of performance running into the world's biggest sport. As well as Gakpo, you can expect to see a range of PUMA athletes wearing the boot, including Matheus Mané, Reigan Heskey, Jamal Jimoh-Aloba, Ayden Heaven, Bendito Mantato, Fridolina Rolfö, Rachel Adedini and Freya Godfrey.
Founded by brothers George and Michael Heaton in 2011, Represent built its name on a blend of modern luxury and vintage-inspired design. Its 247 performance line followed a similar philosophy, creating training gear for people more interested in putting the work in than talking about it. That attitude helped establish a natural relationship with PUMA, with both brands initially focusing on running collections designed around performance rather than hype. But football has never been too far away from Represent's orbit.
The sport's influence has repeatedly surfaced across the brand's collections, while earlier this year the Champions collection further highlighted the connection between Represent and football culture. For a company rooted in British streetwear, the game has long been part of the wider conversation. This new boot simply makes that relationship official.
As George Heaton explains, the goal wasn't just to stamp 247 branding onto an existing product. "We've worked closely with PUMA on the ULTRA and saw an opportunity to bring the distinctive DNA of 247 into an entirely new category. It's a serious performance boot at its core, but we've approached it through the Represent lens, giving it our own perspective, design language and attitude.”
That approach can be seen throughout the boot. PUMA may have supplied the platform, but 247 has had a hand in shaping nearly every visible detail. The colourway, proportions, soleplate detailing and even the custom insole graphic featured in the campaign all reflect the design language that has become synonymous with Represent.
And it's fitting that the partnership has landed on the ULTRA. As PUMA's flagship speed boot, it's already built with performance at the forefront, making it the ideal canvas for 247's first football project.
Under the hood, the ULTRA NITRO 7 remains very much a modern speed boot. NITROFOAM ELITE technology delivers responsive cushioning and energy return, helping players feel a little more explosive during those moments when acceleration matters most. The ULTRAWEAVE upper keeps weight to a minimum while providing a secure fit and close touch on the ball, something that becomes increasingly important at full pace. Underfoot, the FastTrax 2.0 outsole uses data-driven stud placement to maximise traction during quick changes of direction and sharp bursts forward.
The key point, though, is that this isn't a fashion-first exercise. The ULTRA NITRO 7 was already a serious performance boot before Represent got involved. What 247 has added is its own identity, bringing a different aesthetic perspective to a category that often feels trapped between familiar colourways and predictable collaborations.
For Represent, it's also a significant moment. After years of flirting with football through collections and cultural references, the brand has finally stepped onto the pitch. And given the way its partnership with PUMA has developed from running into football, it wouldn't be a surprise if this turns out to be just the beginning.
