adidas Introduce A New Technology In Football With The X Crazyfast 'Strung'

Arriving as a first in football, adidas have just dropped the special edition X Crazyfast ‘Strung’ which reimagines how a football boot is created with what could become game-changing upper technology.

As we all know, football moves pretty fast, both in terms of the action on the pitch, and the technologies that fuel performance. Always keeping up with the pace, Adidas has once again looked to the running world for its latest innovation. As we once saw with Boost, when it transitioned from the running world into football, now we get Strung, introduced in the game through a special edition version of the X Crazyfast.

First unveiled in October 2020 with the adidas Futurecraft Strung running shoes, Strung is a new way to create textile uppers, differing from woven and knitted materials, with a yarn composite coded thread by thread.

With the help of robotic machinery and lots of data, Strung can place fabric exactly where it needs to be, without using any excess material. The design process sees thousands of precision-engineered threads fused together to form a seamless lightweight upper. Every thread in the boot is individually selected and data-mapped to create a seamless, lightweight cocoon around the foot. Stronger red threads feature in the heel, midfoot, and toe-box to provide precision fit and support, while the forefoot is made with softer yellow threads for flexibility.

The upper combines with the SPEEDFRAME and AEROPLATE from X Crazyfast to support dynamic movement at top speed. The result is a new-age football boot, whose performance properties can be tuned much more precisely than current technologies.

We’ve already caught a glimpse of Federico Di Marco and Ferran Torres in the boots, and they are expected to be joined by Takefusa Kubo (Sociedad & Japan), Kang-in Lee (PSG & South Korea), Elye Wahi (RC Lens & France) Florian Wirtz (Leverkusen & Germany), and June Brand (Wolfsburg & Germany) between now and the end of the month.

Strung has the potential to transform the way athletes work with adidas designers, engineers, and sports scientists and could become the new standard-bearer for designing football boot uppers.
