adidas Reveal The Messi Signature X Speedportal 'Leyenda'

Rolling out some serious signature style for what could very well be his last time on the World Cup stage, adidas have officially unveiled the X Speedportal ‘Leyenda’ for Lionel Messi.

Lionel Messi is set to take part in his fifth – and likely final – World Cup this week, and with that in mind, adidas have provided the Argentinian with a new signature edition boot for the occasion. The X Speedportal ‘Leyenda’ is a throwback to where it all began, with a design inspired by the adidas F30 boots that he wore at the 2006 World Cup. We first got a look at the new signature edition last week when Messi took part in one of Argentina’s early training sessions in Qatar in them, but now we get a proper close up look at all the details.

Messi’s first World Cup was 16 years ago in Germany, and so it looks to be there that adidas have gone for inspiration for this new signature X Speedportal in what looks to be a fitting tribute. The golden look nods to the adidas F30 boots worn by Messi in the 2006 World Cup, with a combination of black and white Three Stripe branding playing out across the upper.

Some subtle blue details pop on the rear of the collar, through a graphic on the instep, and the stud tips in an obvious nod to his home nation, while the number 10 and Messi’s logo feature on the rear of the heel of each boot. The soleplate shimmers in golden chrome, representing all the glory Messi has had so far in his career.

Will we see Messi guiding Argentina to World Cup glory in these? Would be a fitting end to his World Cup story, and these would be fitting boots in which to do it.
