A few games in to the Liga MX, and Nike have launched the Pumas UNAM 2020 third shirt, which takes a 50/50 split of blue and gold colouring in a design that pays homage to the classic look of the club's 2001 shirt.

With the new Liga MX season underway, Nike launch the Club de Fútbol Universidad Nacional A.C. – aka Pumas UNAM – 2020 third shirt, with a design that pays homage to the iconic shirt from 2001. The design continues the tradition of placing the club’s beautifully oversized logo front and centre, just like it was on the 2019/20 home and away shirts, but here it sits on a 50/50 split of blue and gold that itself carries meaning.

The gold half of the jersey represents the greatness of UNAM: its fans, its cultural legacy and its university community, as well as its temples and rituals, while the blue represents the players, the youth setup, the legends, and all those who have worn the shirt with pride in the past. And the two halves are joined by the Pumas shield, which “seals a bond that breaks the barriers of time.” Something like that anyway.

Nike continue the symmetry of the shirt by switching the Swoosh to a central position. It's a simple enough move, but one that absolutely boosts the overall aesthetics. Yes please.
