Liverpool Players Launch Club's New Retro Collection

Liverpool’s high-flying opening to the season has now been complemented by a look back into the past, as the club release some new additions to their collection of retro kits, taking us back 30 years.

Modelled by Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Xherdan Shaqiri and Dom Solanke, the latest additions cover the period from 88/89 through to 01/03, adding more choice to the already impressive array of retro shirts offered by the club. Unfortunately, as with a lot of retro shirts, there’s no manufacturer branding, so you won’t see any Reebok or adidas here.

Trent and Jo-mez can be seen modelling the 95/96 home shirt that instantly brings back memories of one of the best Premier League games of all time when the Reds triumphed 4-3 over Newcastle, Stan Collymore running off in celebration in that ridiculously huge v-neck collar.

They also show off the 01/03 European shirt, released following the clubs treble win in the preceding season. Not that it brought them any further success in that period, but, y’know, if you like yellow and red together…

As for Shaq and Solanke, they get the alternate selections, with the white 88/89 third shirt marking a season where the Reds picked up nice win over local rivals Everton in the FA Cup final. The other offering, however, is a bit more marmite: the 96/97 away shirt, synonymous with the “Spice Boy” era of Redknapp, Mcmanaman, Fowler et al. From that same period, the 96/98 collared home shirt is also available, though no one modelled that one. They probably got sick of having to cut Shaqiri out of them.
