To coincide with the launch of Mexico’s striking new third jersey, adidas Originals has unveiled a complementary lifestyle collection created in partnership with social enterprise Someone Somewhere – a collaboration that places Mexican craftsmanship, identity, and community at its core.
Building on the overwhelming response to their first collaboration in June 2024, adidas and Someone Somewhere reunite with an evolved vision. Whereas the initial project saw artisans from the community of Naupan in the Sierra Norte de Puebla embellish Mexico’s Copa América kits as a symbolic elevation of craft and culture, this new collection takes a decisive step forward: for the first time, the products are available for consumers to purchase.
Each piece in the limited-edition range is hand-stitched by rural artisans and carries a unique QR code. Scanning it allows the wearer to meet the individual who created their garment—adding a deeply personal layer to the idea that someone, somewhere made the clothing they now own.
For those unfamiliar with the brand, Someone Somewhere is a social enterprise dedicated to generating fair, consistent work opportunities for artisans and textile workers, with a strong commitment to environmental stewardship. Every product is signed by its creator, where “Someone” refers to the artisan’s name and “Somewhere” to the place they call home.
The organisation collaborates with hundreds of rural artisans across seven of Mexico’s poorest states, applying traditional techniques to modern clothing and accessories. Their work is guided by a holistic vision of sustainability across four dimensions: Cultural, Environmental, Social, and Economic.
Through these principles, Someone Somewhere aims to preserve endangered craft traditions while providing dignified employment that improves the quality of life not only for artisans, but for their wider communities. Long-term, the vision extends far beyond Mexico, seeking to reach rural artisans worldwide who struggle to keep their heritage alive while accessing fair work.
A standout piece in this new Mexico collection is the Artisan JSY, a special edition reinterpretation of Mexico’s new third kit. Designed through a lifestyle lens, the jersey swaps the standard on-pitch silhouette for a polo collar and embroidered detailing, maintaining the spirit of the original shirt while transforming it into a wearable cultural statement.
Crucially, the emphasis remains on the people behind the product. Every item in the collection includes a QR code that reveals the identity and story of its maker, reinforcing transparency, authenticity, and human connection in a global fashion landscape often defined by anonymity.
Designed to take Mexican pride beyond the stadium, the collection seamlessly connects sport with culture, heritage, and artisanal craftsmanship.
“What began as an idea that connected with thousands of people continues to evolve,” said Antonio Nuño, CEO and co-founder of Someone Somewhere. “This year, together with adidas, the vision goes even further: we are expanding the reach of artisanal handiwork so more people can wear pieces that represent the talent, identity, and pride of our communities at such a relevant time for Mexico.”
Nuño also highlighted the broader impact of the partnership, adding: “This collaboration sets a precedent for the global fashion industry, proving it is possible to integrate artisanal value chains into the production systems of global brands.”
By blending adidas Originals’ global platform with Someone Somewhere’s community-driven craftsmanship, the collection represents far more than a fashion drop; it becomes a blueprint for how sport, culture, and ethical production can coexist, and thrive, on the world stage.
