For this week’s episode of The SoccerBible Podcast we welcome City stopper Zack Steffen, as we get to the nitty gritty of what it’s like working with Pep, and find out more about Steffen’s off-pitch activities…

Zack Steffen is in the odd position of playing back up to Ederson at Manchester City while being the Number 1 for the United States men’s national team. But getting to work alongside some of the best players in the world, under one of the best coaches in the world, winning trophies along the way, you can’t really blame him for being content with his current role at club level. At international level though, USA face a huge final push for World Cup qualification, starting with a huge match against Mexico. But the playing side is only one part of this man on a mission…

Having grafted and crafted from the States to Germany Steffen is now standing strong at City, having recently been awarded a fresh, long-term contract. Alongside that, his work in setting up 'Voyce Now' is unquestionably great, in the truest sense. Looking to give back and make a difference to the lives of the next generation, he's also launched a clothing collection which will specifically raise funds for the organisation. A top person who is proving elite at all he does, dive on in to find out more.

He’s obviously a little quirky, but he’s one of the smartest coaches to ever grace the game. He’s very passionate about playing beautiful football and just being calm. That’s one thing I’ve really learned from his style is just to be calm, there’s no need to force it, you always have an option."

We had a team dinner out in the city the other night and as we were leaving the restaurant there was a couple of paparazzi out there and they were taking pictures of us as we’re walking out. It’s like, what’s the point? Don’t you guys just want to be on your couch watching TV and hanging out with your family??"

Steffen has joined forces with OneFootball, the world’s largest football media platform, and not-for-profit organisation VOYCENOW to create a bespoke unisex fashion collection aimed at promoting equality and social justice.

Designed in Manchester and Berlin, the six-piece streetwear range features a distinctive rose crest, which symbolises both courage and resistance against injustice. The capsule collection is now available exclusively from the OneFootball and VOYCENOW websites. Proceeds from the collection will go to VOYCENOW, a non-profit set up by Zack and former US teammate Alex Crognale, supported by athletes across the world. Established in the wake of the murder of George Floyd in 2020, the charity’s mission is to level the playing field by improving opportunities for young people from minority backgrounds across sport and education.
