Norwich City 17/18 Match Programmes by Patterns of Play

Making moves in their own creative direction, Norwich City teamed up with Patterns of Play to curate and design covers of their match day programme for the 17/18 season. Each cover given a bespoke treatment, it's a step in the strong direction for the space where football meets design.

Patterns of play is a design studio in Norwich that focuses on providing a platform for football inspired creatives to sell their work. Having produced several pop up exhibitions, for the 17/18 season, they were given the opportunity to collaborate with Norwich City for their match day programme. Bringing together a plethora of creatives, the outcome has been illustrated as well as inspired. Each artist has offered a bespoke finish and much tailored variation. Served on a strong, minimalist cover layout, 23 covers have been produced to go alongside each Norwich City home game for the 17/18 season.

Each design tells a story connected to that fixture and through various visual techniques. From portrait illustration through to tactile layering of cut out paper, it's not just a graphic design element that has been showcased but a real all round art approach that has been perfectly crossed with football.

A real dosage of creative inspiration that goes beyond any food for thought, this collaboration has brought something entirely fresh to a medium that will forever be trying to find its place in a digital age. The match day programme is a legacy product of football and through projects like this, the value and significance and rejuvenate an almost lost art.
