Football’s back, and with the 2026/27 season underway for the most part, I’ve rounded up the 10 best away shirts of the campaign. Adidas leads the way with four entries, while hummel and Nike each have two. Macron and Erreà complete what is an eclectic set.
Following on from my Top 10 Home Shirts of the 26/27 season, here's my selection for the away shirts. This season has brought a noticeable shift towards cleaner, more understated designs in the away category. In fact, I could probably have filled this entire list with white shirts and few people would have complained. Just look at the efforts from AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Napoli, Bologna and OGC Nice. They’re all beautifully executed, minimalist designs.
As tempting as that was, I’ve avoided overcrowding the list with similar-looking shirts and instead selected what I consider to be the standout white design of the season. Alongside it, you’ll find a mix of expected contenders and a few surprise inclusions.
10. Standard Liege (Macron)
Black and red works. Black and gold works. Black, red and gold? Yeah, go on then, especially with the pinstripe execution and centralised chest logos. Sponsor is a little clunky, but at least it adopts the gold colour.
9. Chelsea (Nike)
This may get totally ruined by a bad sponsor (It's already dragged down by the Club World Champions logo in the centre of the chest in my opinion). But that collar and cuff detail on the black base, along with that stripped back crest? Yeah, deserves its place on this list.
8. FC. Koln (adidas)
There's a beautiful simplicity to Koln's shirt. White accents, including pinstripes, on a bold red base. Works, and then some.
7. Real Betis (hummel)
In a season where there's a clear leaning towards clean and simple kit designs, it's great to see something that bucks the trend. Gold on green with a lavish sublimated pattern? Yeah, go on then.
6. ADO Den Haag (Errea)
Love a random entry, and this one from Dutch side ADO Den Haag will have flown below a lot of radars. There's a beautiful retro quality to the collar and cuffs, and its finished with that refined pinstripe execution on the black base.
5. Ajax (adidas)
Almost inevitable that Ajax would be on this list, especially when you realise that it's the first time that the Trefoil has appeared on one of their kits. OK, yeah, everyone has one of those now, but come on, this is Ajax. And that "Black/Hazy Orange" colour scheme? Yeah, you had us at Ajax.
4. Barcelona (Nike/Mamba)
Back for a second season, Kobe Bryant's logo appears on the Catalan side's away shirt again, this time on a suitably seductive black and purple number. Feels fitting.
3. Eintracht Frankfurt (adidas)
This is the cleanest of clean designs this season. A monochrome masterpiece. Simplicity at its finest.
2. Arsenal (adidas)
Like Ajax, Arsenal are just always blessed by adidas with the best kits around. While this one just misses out on top spot, it's a thing of beauty; adidas casually combining some retro nods to the past with a future facing design.
1. Sunderland (hummel)
This shirt is just so different, both in terms of execution and inspiration. Elvis and Sunderland? Shouldn't work on any level, but somehow it just does, and I fully applaud it.
