There’s a million different lists ranking the 2026 World Cup kits, and so this one takes a slightly different approach, viewing it through our own Creative Soccer Culture lens and ranking them based on their influence.
This isn’t just a list of the best-looking shirts (although that does play a big part in it), but it’s also the ones that have the most cultural relevance. How much does a design move the needle? Does it have added reverence due to additional factors? All things that were taken into account as I cast my eye over the 48 teams, representing 13 different brands.
Unsurprisingly, the “big three” dominate: adidas lead the way with 14 federations, Nike follow with 12 (one for Jordan), and PUMA have 11. Kelme are the only other brand with more than one team, while Umbro, Kappa, Reebok, 7Saber, Jako, Majid, Saeta, Marathon Sports and Capelli are each represented once.
From more than 100 kits, I’ve narrowed it down to just 10. Here goes…
10. Senegal away (PUMA)
PUMA has done a great job for the majority of African nations at the World Cup this year, but probably the pick of the bunch is Senegal, although you could argue the case for several others. That strong graphic through the centre just sealing it for me though.
9. France away (Nike)
A lot of people's favourites for the tournament, and Nike have made sure Les Bleus will look good whether or not that comes to pass. The home shirt could easily have featured on this list as well, but for a proper difference to anything else, I opted for the minty hues of the away shirt. Fresh.
8. Norway home (Nike)
If you want a design that fully encapsulates a nation's identity, look no further than Norway's home shirt from Nike. The flag, the nods to viking heritage, wrapped up in a design that perfectly balances big and bold and subtle intricacies.
7. Sweden away (adidas)
Taking its visual cues and aesthetics from 70s patterns, three different tones of blue come together on Sweden’s away jersey to form a bold, all-over graphic design, a nod to the nation’s rich cultural heritage. And boy does it work.
6. Brazil away (Jordan)
You could argue that there are better looking shirts that could've appeared on this list (I personally really like the design, but wish that Jumpman logo was centralised). But you can't argue with the cultural significance of this jersey. Jordan making the step up to the International scene for the first time – there's probably an argument that it should be higher for that reason...
5. South Korea away (Nike)
We talked about unique designs back with France's entry, but it's a recurring theme on this list, and South Korea is the next. From the colour to the graphics, it just demands to be admired.
4. Germany home (adidas)
Unmistakably German. And that's the main purpose of a home shirt – to capture a nation's identity. So the fact this does that and also has a throwback to early 90s Germany kits just gives it that little bit extra. But its cultural relevance doesn't stop there, as this is the last home shirt for Germany from compatriots adidas, bringing the curtain down on one of the longest partnerships in football.
3. Curacao away (adidas)
Curacao earn their place given that this is their first-ever World Cup and their away shirt is also amazing. Adidas rolled out a similar clean look for a number of teams. Is Curacao as good as Spain away? Japan away? That’s open for debate, but they earn their place over Spain and Japan on this list (spoilers, sorry) for the aforementioned reason. Multi-coloured Three Stripes help give it a nice edge.
2. Uruguay away (Nike)
Honestly, position one and two on this list are pretty interchangeable – both so unique and striking in their own way. For this one, it was only a few years back that Uruguay were in the limbo of creating their kits in-house while Nike, adidas, PUMA and Kelme all battled it out for the contract. Flash forward a couple of years and Nike deliver this absolute beauty, known very unofficially as the Black Panther kit for its obvious similarities to the Marvel superhero. Decision to go with the Swoosh very much justified.
1. Argentina away (adidas)
Have you ever seen anything like this on a football pitch? Maybe, but I can't think of anything like it off the top of my head. The World Champions defending their title in one of the best and bravest jersey designs seen on the international stage. Along with Uruguay, it pushes the boundaries of what's possible for jersey design, particularly at this level.
Honourable mentions for Spain away, Czech rep away, Mexico home, Japan away and England and Brazil's goalkeeper kits.
