Nike & Inter Milan’s 26/27 Home Shirt Design Nods to the City’s Tailoring and Manufacturing Tradition

Serie A champions, Inter Milan have revealed the shirt from Nike that they’ll be defending their title in next season, and it’s a design that reinterprets the club’s traditional identity through a modern lens inspired by fashion and design.

There’s no way of mistaking the new Inter home shirt for 26/27, with the tradition boxes fully ticked as Nike revert to a more familiar and standard stripe execution following several seasons of experimenting with what stripes could be over the last seven years. And the return is a welcome one, elevated by the presence of gold elements, fitting for the new champions of Italy.

Black and Lyon Blue stripes dominate once again, immediately evoking the club’s lineage while subtly nodding to the revered 1998 kit. But what elevates this release beyond nostalgia is the way those traditions are treated: not frozen in time, but tailored – quite literally – for the present.

That tailoring influence runs throughout the shirt. The stripes themselves are where the story really begins. Rather than clean, uniform edges, their borders are finished in a style inspired by the cut of tailor’s scissors – an unexpectedly elegant detail that gives the entire design a sense of motion and craftsmanship. It’s a small flourish, but a meaningful one, tying the shirt directly to Milano’s identity as one of the world’s fashion capitals.

And then there’s the gold. Gold, in football terms, is rarely subtle. Here, it doesn’t need to be. As reigning Scudetto winners, Inter have earned the right to wear it. The touches are measured rather than overpowering, but they shimmer with intent, adding a sense of prestige to a design that might otherwise lean too heavily on understatement.

The return of the collar also deserves mention. In recent years, collars have come and gone across kit design, often struggling to strike the right balance between formality and performance. Here, it feels earned. It adds structure to the shirt, reinforcing that sartorial theme without tipping into costume. Paired with the sharp stripe detailing, it helps create a silhouette that feels both classic and contemporary, something Inter and Nike have been chasing for a number of seasons.

Ultimately, this is a design that understands what Inter is. It honours the past through references to iconic designs, celebrates the present with its golden accents, and anchors everything in the cultural fabric of Milano.
