Nike & Corinthians Drop Special Edition 'Socrates' Jersey

Ten years after Sócrates' death, Nike and Corinthians are eternalising the legacy of the idol Camisa 8 with the exclusive collection ‘Doutor Sócrates’, a special collection that represents the history of the club, fronted by a special edition jersey.

Sócrates Brasileiro Sampaio de Souza Vieira de Oliveira was an idol in the history of Corinthians and Brazilian football. His medical degree and his political awareness, combined with the style and quality of his play, earned him the nickname "Doctor Socrates”, and now, on the 10th anniversary of his passing, Nike and Corinthians honour his legacy with a collection that takes on that nickname.

The key piece from the collection is the special edition jersey, which arrives in a clean white base synonymous with the club’s traditional look. Special details feature throughout, such as the main badge, formed by the union of the team's crest with the image of the player with a clenched fist, and the writing style that was used back in the 1980s, when Sócrates was in his prime. The print “Doctor Sócrates” on the upper back, is a faithful reinterpretation of the Corinthian Democracy logo used at the time.

There is no way to think about the greatness of Corinthians without recognising the importance of everything Socrates has done for the team on and off the field," explained Duilio Monteiro Alves, president of Corinthians. "In addition to being one of the greatest players in our history, he was a leader and an engaged citizen, who embraced Corinthian Democracy with his fellow cast members and my father, Adilson Monteiro Alves, who at the time was the club's Football Director. This collection is an acknowledgment worthy of the Doctor's memory, and I'm sure the fans will be proud and emotional when wearing the shirts.”
