Nike Launch Man City 18/19 Away Kit

Manchester City used to be a bit rubbish. You might not have known that if you're of a certain age. They haven't always been the multi-million spending, trophy lifting powerhouse they are now. The new 18/19 away kit revisits one of the most pivotal chapters of their history.

The inspiration for the 2018/19 Manchester City away kit goes back two decades when the the 1998/99 squad win what many consider as the most important game in the club’s history, and sparked the modern-day revival of its winning ways. Yeah, they might have been a bit rubbish, but their fans have experienced that, they've lived through it, and that's what makes their current success even more special. They ain't rubbish anymore.

The dark blue shirt with field blue and yellow pin stripes down the front and back recall the club's away shirt for a playoff final against Gillingham. After being down 2-0 at the end of normal time, City scored two dramatic injury-time goals and later won the match on penalties, taking them back up to Division One.

Dramatic indeed. Now, looking ahead to another season as reigning Premier League Champions, City are acknowledging a vital step in their journey. That blue and yellow pin stripe shirt is met with matching shorts and volt-coloured socks with a dark blue band around the shin.

Below is the the original 1998/99 Manchester City away shirt seen during the famous Division Two play-off final penalty shootout against Gillingham. The guy on the far right? If you fed him, he would score. Simple as.
