Sometimes the strongest move is to go back to where it all started. That's exactly what 12 Pentagons has done with the launch of the Midnight 92, a fresh take on the construction that introduced the brand to the football world two years ago, and it just so happens to coincide with one of nature's greatest shows.
Back in June 2024, the Original 92 arrived as an individually numbered run of just 1,000 footballs. It sold out in four and a half hours, instantly establishing both the brand's appetite for craftsmanship and the 92-panel construction that became its calling card. Now, for the first time, that original design returns in a new colourway.
Dressed entirely in black, the Midnight 92 feels like a fitting evolution of the ball that started it all. Crafted from Grade 1 Italian pull-up leather, the latest release swaps the natural tones of the original for a deep black finish, complemented by meticulous hand stitching throughout using matching black thread. The result is a football that feels as premium as ever, while carrying a darker, more understated aesthetic.
As with previous 12 Pentagons releases, the materials are very much part of the story. The pull-up leather is designed to age gracefully through handling and play, meaning no two balls will remain exactly alike. Over time, each Midnight 92 will develop its own unique patina, adding another layer of individuality to an already limited product.
The release continues a strong run for the brand following the sold-out J-Swerve Classic, further reinforcing 12 Pentagons' commitment to producing carefully crafted, limited edition leather footballs that sit comfortably at the intersection of sport and design.
What makes this launch particularly significant is that it's the first time the brand has revisited its inaugural 92-panel construction. Rather than reinventing the formula, 12 Pentagons has chosen to celebrate it, introducing a new look while preserving the craftsmanship and detail that made the original such a success.
Appropriately, the timing of the launch leans into the theme behind the colourway. The Midnight 92 drops on 12 August 2026, coinciding with the total solar eclipse that will pass across Spain, Portugal, Iceland and Greenland. The deep black finish serves as a nod to the celestial event, giving the release an added sense of occasion.
Limited to just 200 individually numbered footballs, the Midnight 92 is set to be another highly sought-after release from the brand. If the response to the Original 92 and J-Swerve Classic is anything to go by, don't expect these to stick around for long.
