Are Fiorentina Set To Sign With Mizuno?

Reports doing the rounds suggest Fiorentina could be on the verge of a fresh kit deal, with Japanese brand Mizuno tipped to step in once the club’s current agreement with Kappa expires at the end of the season.

Fiorentina are one of those clubs that need very little introduction. Instantly recognisable thanks to that iconic viola home colour, the club sits comfortably in football’s nostalgia hall of fame — helped in no small part by memories of the late-90s Nintendo sponsor and Gabriel Batistuta hammering goals in for fun. Pure heritage.

More recently, it’s been fellow Italians Kappa taking care of La Viola’s on-pitch looks, and truth be told, they’ve been doing a pretty bang-up job. Since linking up in 2020, Kappa have delivered some standout efforts, arguably peaking with the 23/24 season. However, with that deal set to conclude this summer, it looks like change could be on the horizon.

Enter Mizuno.

The Japanese brand have been quietly but confidently re-establishing themselves on the European stage after a period away, and they’re wasting no time making moves. Currently kitting out Lazio in Serie A, Augsburg in the Bundesliga, and AS Monaco in Ligue 1 — who, coincidentally, also made the switch from Kappa after a six year stint — Mizuno’s potential capture of Fiorentina would underline their growing ambition in the kit game.

It wouldn’t be entirely new territory either. Mizuno and Fiorentina briefly partnered back in the 2001/02 season, although that relationship was unfortunately cut short following the club’s bankruptcy and subsequent reformation the following year. A reunion now would feel like a neat bit of footballing symmetry.

Interestingly, last summer saw Joma heavily linked with a move for Fiorentina, with the Spanish brand reportedly in pole position before the deal ultimately fell through — leaving the door wide open for Mizuno to make their move.

While Mizuno have long held their status as a premium name in the boot world, this potential deal represents another clear step in their push to become a serious player in the European kit market. If it does come to fruition, pairing Mizuno’s refined design language with Fiorentina’s unmistakable identity could be a match worth getting excited about. First up? A remake of that 2001/02 kit. Belissimo.

Still waiting for the official confirmation, but this one looks pretty locked, so expect Mizuno-produced Fiorentina kits around July this year.
