Inter Miami Host Demolition Party Ahead Of New Stadium Construction

Taking the next steps towards making their dream a reality, Inter Miami hosted a demolition event at Lockhart Stadium, the site on which the new 18,000-capacity stadium is set to be built for the team to begin their MLS campaign in 2020.

Getting ready to start life in MLS in 2020, Inter Miami have begun to prepare the site where their temporary home will be built. The new 18,000-capacity stadium in Ft. Lauderdale is only set to be a temporary home, with the team playing there during its first two years in the league while a permanent venue is completed at Miami Freedom Park, closer to the Miami International Airport.

Once the construction of their permanent home is completed, Inter Miami will use the Ft. Lauderdale facility for a to-be-named USL affiliate squad. It will also be used for training purposes by the club’s first-team players and fledgling academy.

With the demolition of the Lockhart Stadium, a chapter in American soccer history comes to an end. The stadium was home to the NASL’s Fort Lauderdale Strikers, the now-defunct MLS side Miami Fusion FC and others throughout the years.

With every end comes a new beginning…
