Football Legends Boot Spotting

Football Legends Boot Spotting

This week legends of the game gathered for the ninth annual UN 'Match Against Poverty' between a Hamburg XI and a Ronaldo, Zidane   Friends XI that may well have been one of the best teams ever put together! Here's a selection of the great players on show, and the football boots they were sporting...

Ronaldo - Nike Tiempo Legend Elite IV

Ronaldo is famed for being the original wearer of the Nike Mercurial series, with his signature R9's worn during the 1998 World Cup. Since his retirement we've seen the legendary speedster sporting a pair of Nike Tiempo Legend football boots, which he wore during his final bow for Brazil, and this week as he scored against HSV Allstars. After collecting the ball, Ronaldo dribbled through the middle before playing a one-two with Didier Drogba inside the area, and smashing the ball home.

Luis Figo - Nike T90 Laser III

Anyone who's seen the television adverts will know Luis Figo has kept himself in good shape since retiring, and after his performance this week could still be playing at a high level. The former Sporting, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter Milan winger rolled out a string of step overs to bamboozle a Hamburg defender before slotting past the keeper for the fifth goal. Interestingly for a winger, Figo was sporting a pair of Nike T90 Laser III football boots and although he ended his playing days wearing the Laser II, Figo hadn't got himself a pair of the new Laser IV's.

Zinedine Zidane - adidas adiPower Predator DB

One of the games pass masters, when it comes to technique Zidane is a true great who was famed for the Zidane spin. During his career Zinedine Zidane won countless honours, along with a long-term contract with adidas as a lead Predator wearer. Since retiring he's still worn Predator football boots whenever the occasion has risen, and despite being a DB boot, the gold adidas adiPower Predator's are the perfect boot for a World Cup, European Championship and three-time World Player of the Year winner.

Christian Karembeu - adidas adiPower Predator

Former Sampdoria and Real Madrid midfielder Christian Karembeu was sporting the latest adiPower Predator colourways, as he played for Ronaldo, Zidane   friends. Karembeu has previously worn adidas Predators in his career, along with an interesting choice of A-Line football boots! The midfielder is another to have lifted the 1998 World Cup with France, and is still involved in the game working as a scout for Arsenal.

Edgar Davids - Nike Mercurial Vapor VII

One of the games true tough-tackling midfielders, Edgar Davids was both combative and creative. He's played for Ajax, AC Milan, Juventus, Barcelona, Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur, and despite his aggressive play Davids opted to wear Nike Mercurial Vapors during his playing days. Davids was again wearing Nike Mercurial Vapor football boots for the 'Match Against Poverty', although he was wearing the Vapors and not Superfly's.

Steve Mcmanaman - adidas Copa Mundial

Steve Mcmanaman was one of the few players wearing old school football boots for the 'Match Against Poverty', as he wore a pair of adidas Copa Mundials. Mcmanaman teamed up with former Real Madrid colleagues Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo and Christian Karembeu, and the tricky winger who is also an Anfield legend, was yet another retired player choosing a classic comfortable leather football boot.

Gheorge Hagi - Puma King Finale

One of the elder statesmen on the pitch, Hagi is 46 years old but that still didn't prevent him from rolling back the years with a few clinical passes this week. Hagi is another player who has the notoriety of playing for both Real Madrid and Barcelona, and is a Romanian legend after winning 125 international caps. During his playing career Hagi wore adidas, Lotto and Nike, but for the 'Match Against Poverty' was wearing a pair of new Puma King football boots.
