Umbro's 17-3 Collection Goes Hard For St. Patrick's Day

They may not produce the national team kits at the moment, but that hasn’t stopped Umbro getting into the St Patrick’s Day spirit, with the Double Diamond dropping the 17-3 collection for Ireland.

Umbro has a longstanding relationship with Irish football and culture, both in Ireland and throughout the global diasporic community. Here they build on the success of last year’s 17-3 drop with a new three-piece collection that’s sure to be a favourite wherever there’s a pint of Guinness. It arrives under the accompanying campaign, The Thread that Binds, a project that honours Ireland not as a static symbol, but as a living, shifting cultural force.

At the centre of the capsule sits the new 17–3 Jersey, available in either traditional green or alternate white jacquard fabric, both carrying the same all‑over tessellated pattern. The design fuses two emblems – the Umbro double diamond and the Celtic Knot – into a pattern that feels both archival and modern. A textured crest bearing Saint Patrick’s insignia anchors it in heritage, while the flat‑knit collar and sleeve cuffs bring in the bold orange‑white‑green of the Irish flag.

The track jacket channels Umbro’s 1990s DNA with a relaxed, boxy silhouette. It mirrors the jersey’s motif and crest, bridging sport and streetwear with ease, the kind of piece that can live in a stadium tunnel as easily as in the pub.

Completing the set is a re‑imagining of the 17–3 Speciali trainer. Dressed in the capsule’s signature green, the shoe comes in rich suede with a jacquard‑printed sock liner. A white‑and‑orange lateral tab finishes the look.

Umbro’s The Thread That Binds campaign comes to life through a trio of creators whose stories stretch far beyond Ireland’s borders, yet remain deeply connected to its heritage.

The opening act belongs to Morgan Bullock, the African American dancer whose Irish dance performances in unexpected settings made waves online. Shot on Venice Beach, Morgan wears the 17–3 Jersey while doing what she does best, blending Irish tradition with a fresh, global rhythm.

Next is Rejjie Snow, one of Ireland’s most innovative artistic exports. Against a backdrop of Iceland’s volcanic emptiness, Rejjie honours the Irish tradition of the limerick, while the 17–3 Jersey references his Dublin roots.

The trilogy concludes with Sean Atmos, the Dublin‑born multidisciplinary artist whose colour‑blocked abstract handwriting energises the campaign.

Using Umbro’s contemporary design language to weave together archival nods with Irish iconography has resulted in a capsule which looks to the future, whilst honouring the past.

And that’s exactly what 17–3 accomplishes. It’s a celebration of Irish heritage that rejects borders, embraces reinvention, and proves that identity, just like football, travels well.
