adidas Unveils FIFA World Cup Historical Ball Collection — A Five-Decade Love Letter to the Game

Some moments in football live forever. Goals, finals, legends… and the match balls that carried them. Now, adidas have bottled over 50 years of World Cup history into one unrivalled collector’s drop with the unveiling of the FIFA World Cup Historical Ball Collection — a premium celebration of the brand’s iconic partnership with the biggest stage in the game.

This here isn’t just nostalgia. It’s a curated timeline of football design, tech evolution and cultural impact, told through the most famous spheres in sport. At the heart of the collection sit all 15 official adidas FIFA World Cup match balls, faithfully recreated — from the trailblazing Telstar (1970) to the freshly launched Trionda (2026).

It’s a journey that hits every landmark moment along the way, beginning with the Telstar and Telstar Durlast in 1970 and 1974, before moving into the iconic Tango era of 1978 and 1982. The Azteca in 1986 ushered in a new technological chapter, while the 1990s delivered a legendary run through the Etrusco Unico, Questra and Tricolore.

The 2000s pushed boundaries with the Fevernova in 2002 and the radical Teamgeist in 2006, introducing rounded, non-traditional panel shapes. That evolution continued with the infamous Jabulani in 2010 and the high-performance Brazuca in 2014, before modern reinterpretations arrived in the form of Telstar 18 in 2018, Al Rihla and Al Hilm in 2022. Now, the story moves forward with the Trionda, the official match ball for FIFA World Cup 2026, launched earlier this October.

Each ball represents not just a tournament, but an era of innovation, culture and football identity.

adidas aren’t playing around with this drop. The collection lands in three distinct formats, each aimed at a different level of collector.

The FIFA World Cup Historical Mini Ball Set launches today, priced at €250, and includes all 15 official match balls in mini form. Each ball features a laminated finish with a foam core, preserving the essence of the original designs while making them ideal for display. Housed in a special-edition presentation box that charts the evolution of World Cup ball design, it’s a ready-made centrepiece for any fan’s space.

For the purists, the FIFA World Cup Historical Pro Ball Set (Size 5) arrives in early 2026 as a limited edition of fewer than 3,000 units worldwide, priced at €2,500. Each ball is a near one-to-one reproduction of the original, constructed using the same ball technology used at the time of its first release. This is as close as it gets to true match-day authenticity, designed for collectors who want the full heritage experience.

Launching alongside it, the FIFA World Cup Historical Club Ball Set (Size 5) offers a more accessible entry point at €400. Available globally excluding Europe, each ball features a flat TPU surface with machine-stitched construction, delivering a commercial take-down of the historic designs while staying true to their visual legacy.

This drop is pure adidas heritage in physical form. It celebrates bold design, technical breakthroughs and the cultural power of the World Cup across five decades. From black-and-white broadcasts to 8K finals. From stitched leather to bonded panels. From Pelé to Mbappé.

Every ball tells a story — and now, adidas are giving you the chance to own the full timeline.

The Mini Ball Set is available now for €250, but it's going fast, while the Pro and Club Sets arrive in 2026 for those ready to go all-in on football history.
