adidas Reveal The 2022 UEFA Super Cup Match Ball

As the winners of the Champions League and Europa League respectively, Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt will face off in Helsinki tonight for the UEFA Super Cup, and ahead of kick off we now get to see the official match ball for the game.

The UEFA Super Cup is one of those competitions that doesn’t really matter to anyone… unless you win it of course, at which point you laud it over all as the absolute masters of Europe. It’s a showpiece event, much like the Community Shield in England, the Supercopa de España in Spain, the Trophée des Champions in France and so on. This year will see reigning Champions League winners Real Madrid taking on Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt for the first time in 62 years as the sides come together in the Helsinki Olympic Stadium for what is the traditional curtain-raiser to the new European season. And as in previous years, the fixture will see the use of a match ball with a bespoke design from adidas.

The adidas 2022 UEFA Super Cup ball is based on the Al Rihla 2022 World Cup ball model, although it comes with an aesthetic shake up, combining white, green, and blue, the official colours of the UEFA Super Cup.

Tech-wise, the ball provides the highest level of accuracy and reliability on the field of play, due in part to its new panel shape and surface textures. Key features of its construction include the CTR-Core, an innovative core within the ball that is tuned to improve accuracy and consistency, supporting fast, precise play with maximum shape and air retention, and the SpeedShell, the ball’s polyurethane (PU) skin featuring micro and macro textures and a new 20-piece panel shape, which enhances aerodynamics to improve the accuracy, flight stability and swerve of shots.
