Nike are dipping back into the archives once more, this time pulling out something special for what is the fourth chapter in the RGN series. Yep, it’s back to 2009 and the original Mercurial Superfly, made famous by Cristiano Ronaldo.

Few pairings are as intrinsically linked as Cristiano Ronaldo and the Mercurial and now Nike celebrates the enduring bond between the two with the CR7 Mercurial Superfly RGN. No player has ever scored more goals in a single football boot model than Ronaldo has in Mercurial, making this regen both a tribute to a category-defining boot and to the player who elevated it to iconic status.

Reviving the design language of the original 2009 Superfly, a boot so synonymous with Ronaldo, the 2026 CR7 Mercurial Superfly RGN reintroduces one of the most influential boots in football history, the Mercurial Superfly I. This release marks the fourth chapter of the RGN series, following the Vapor trio introduced in 2025, and for the first time the RGN arrives as a Superfly. It will be worn by Cristiano Ronaldo himself, the ultimate seal of approval from the athlete who made the Superfly unforgettable 17 years ago and now brings it full circle with its rerelease.

When it first launched, the Mercurial Superfly was the lightest and fastest Mercurial to date. It debuted next-generation Nike Flywire technology in a streamlined upper, acting as a second skin that delivered a lightweight yet stronger, more dynamic fit. Beneath it, a carbon-fibre soleplate provided explosive acceleration, with strategically placed blades offering superior footing and razor-sharp cuts in any direction. It was the beginning of a new legacy, and the perfect boot for CR7 as he entered a decade of dominance and his own signature era.

Honouring that legacy while meeting the speed demands of today’s game, the CR7 Mercurial Superfly RGN pairs the spirit of the original with modern materials and engineering. Each update nods to what made the 2009 model revolutionary, while elevating fit, feel, and responsiveness: a reengineered Teijin synthetic leather upper enhances softness; ultra-thin microfiber delivers a “barely there” touch for high-speed control; integrated Flywire cables wrap the foot and tighten with the laces for a secure, locked-in fit; and Air Zoom cushioning is embedded within the traction plate. Echoing the carbon-fibre soleplate that defined the Superfly I, this setup delivers the snap, traction, and responsiveness demanded in the modern game.

Visually, the CR7 Mercurial Superfly RGN features that instantly recognisable Max Orange base with Metallic Silver split and Dark Abyss Swoosh detailing – an unmistakable palette inspired by the Mercurial Vapor V and the original Superfly. The updated sockliner reads “Made for Greatness” in both English and Portuguese, a final homage to the athlete who continues to define the Mercurial legacy.

The CR7 Mercurial Superfly RGN will be available at prodirectsport.com/soccer from 7 April.
