Nike has unveiled the first Player Edition Mercurial Superfly for Sam Kerr, capturing her fearless attacker’s mentality, her deep Aussie roots, and her undeniable presence as one of the game’s defining athletes. This isn’t just another drop, this is changing the game completely as the first women’s signature Nike boot in over 20 years.
Chelsea and Matildas legend Sam Kerr finally has stamped her own name on a boot as Nike launch the first-ever signature Mercurial for the striker. Arriving just in time for what's sure to be another successful season for the Aussie, this boot is bold, ambitious, and holds all the qualities Sam carries out onto the pitch with her. Built for speed, but made for goals.
Sam’s Mercurial is an eye catcher from the start. Ot’s a personal tribute to her 11-year journey as a pro, built with the same relentless intensity she brings to the pitch every week. At its heart is a design that speaks to place and identity. A neutral, sand-inspired base sparks memories of the beaches of her hometown Perth, whilst bright streaks of teal, pink, and orange mirror the ocean, sunset, and rugged landscape of Western Australia.
The upper is etched with Kerr’s personal inscriptions, almost like tattoos of her journey. Her mantra ‘Consistent’ runs across the boot, whilst ‘Forever Forward’ celebrates her striker’s instinct. ‘Perth Swagger’ also features, rooting this boot firmly in home soil.
One of the most striking details is the bold stripe that runs down the toe, acting as a direct nod to Cathy Freeman. For those who don’t know, Freeman is the Australian sprinting icon who won gold in Sydney 25 years ago in that full Nike bodysuit. At the top of the stripe the iconic win is referenced, as well as the roman numerals ‘XX’ nodding to Kerr’s number, 20. It’s Aussie past, present, and future all in one.
Other tributes to Kerr’s incredible career feature throughout the design, with the years 2009, 2017, and 2020 stamped. 2009 being her international debut with the Matildas, whilst 2017 is the year she seized the NWSL Golden Boot, and 2020 was the season she carved her legacy into Chelsea’s story. Each is a reminder that her journey was built on milestones. Inside the boot, the sockliner doubles down on inspiration with one foot reading ‘Be who I am’ and the other ‘Be who you are’, designed not just to inspire Sam, but a whole generation of girls that are following their dreams.
Completing the design, Sam Kerr’s signature sits on the heel, signing off with authority.
For this launch, Nike have also dropped performance apparel and a lifestyle collection alongside, featuring a Nike Field general Sneaker, over sides Fleece Hoodie, and performance tops and shorts.
