Nike Drop Signature 'Mbappe Flames' Mercurial Superfly VIII

As the seasons switch and the clocks go back, it’s time for a new signature style for Kylian Mbappé, and Nike duly oblige by providing the PSG striker with ‘Flames’, a new bespoke colourway for the Mercurial Superfly 8, which lands as the centrepiece of the wider ‘KM Flames’ collection.

The inspiration behind Kylian Mbappé’s new signature edition Mercurial Superfly colourway from Nike shouldn’t take a great deal of explaining on first glance: here is one of the hottest young players of the current generation, and one thing that symbolises his raw talent? Yep, fire. See? Doesn’t take a genius. But there’s a little bit more to the ‘Flames’ design than just that, as Mbappé himself explained: “If I could add a superpower to a pair of boots, it would be the flame, because the flame means speed.

While we’re not going to argue the technicalities of what constitutes a super power with the World Cup winner, his logic is sound enough, and what that then provides us with is a graphic representation of his already searing speed on the pitch.

The official colourway of the boot is “Light Thistle/Metallic Silver/Bright Crimson”, and it sees a lilac base joined by the overlaying crimson colouring burning up on the lateral side from the toe area. The silver elements provide a high vis shine to the flame outlines that glows when it catches the light, while the Swoosh branding rides on top of all of that in black, sitting in its usual position. The heel and the insole then feature finishing flourishes in the form of the ‘KM’ sign off and additional flame graphics.

As soon as Mbappé gets over a slight injury he’s expected to lace up in his new signature ‘Flames’ colourway on the pitch, so eyes peeled for some Boot Spotting when they first debut.

The wider collection features apparel and equipment, generally aimed at inspiring the younger generation to find their fun in football through being fast, with the same flame graphics being carried across all items.
