Newcastle United and adidas Tweak Tradition with 26/27 Home Shirt

You’d think that black and white stripes is all you need when it comes to Newcastle United’s home kit, but adidas have managed to add a little extra to the club’s new home shirt for the 26/27 season.

The design reimagines the club’s classic stripes, introducing a bold, disrupted pattern (who said barcode?). It’s an interesting way of tweaking tradition, with thicker stripes surrounded by gradually shining stripes. It’s certainly a fresh enough take on black and white stripes, a task made all the more difficult when you’re not only trying not to replicate what the club has done in the past, but also what Juventus have done. But an energetic pop of colour ensures there’s plenty of differentials at play here.

The design is certainly future-thinking and progressive for the club, which is refreshing in an era where so many designs are throwbacks. The redefined black and white stripes are paired with striking blue detailing around the crew collar and adidas’ Three Stripes branding on the shoulders, tying in nicely to the crest. The club’s symbolic magpie iconography is printed on the neck of the shirt as a nice final detail.

All in, this is a Newcastle shirt and no mistaking it. Is it their best ever? Of course not. Will it do the job? Absolutely.
