Everyone loves a good story, a reason behind something that gives it meaning. Well USL side Sacramento Republic have fully embraced that approach, launching their Nike 2019 third kit, titled the “City Kit”.

Sacramento are making some serious waves as they continue their push for a place in MLS, and now they’ve upped their on-pitch game by releasing a stunning third kit from Nike, titled the “City Kit”. Inspired by the town itself and the official Sacramento city flag, the third kit’s design features iconic symbols of the Indomitable City threaded throughout the jersey in a modern print.

Produced by Nike, the "City Kit" draws its colours directly from the official Sacramento city flag, its two tones of blue representing the convergence of the American and Sacramento rivers. The flag itself is patched onto the jersey’s sleeve, a nod to the visible pride Sacramentans take in their city. Adorning the face of the jersey is a repeating pattern of iconic Sacramento symbols—the Tower Bridge, five-point star, California grizzly bear and city motto, Urbs Indomita, which is latin for Indomitable City.

We wanted to take a fresh approach to the design and create something that was not only exciting, but also steeped in city and club DNA,” said Allison Yee-Garcia, Republic FC VP of Marketing. “We drew inspiration from the city flag and some of the most iconic symbols in our club’s identity and that led us to a design that lets fans proudly wear their city on their sleeves.

Undeniably unique, Sacramento Republic will be debuting the “City Kit” on 1 June in their USL match against San Antonio FC.
