The Lionesses got their World Cup campaign off to a strong start recently with a 2-1 win over Scotland. Following that triumphant win, Nike is celebrating three of the England stars through spoken word from three UK MCs.

The series of three short films goes behind the scenes and into the real life stories of three incredible athletes to showcase the years of hope, hard work and daily grit that it’s taken to make it as elite athletes. Each tribute is from an MC at the top of their game delivered to a female athlete who’s at the top of theirs. The films feature a performance from the respective MC, shot at Wembley stadium, with grassroots football scenes captured in the athletes’ hometowns and archival material of them playing as kids with “Gabryelle Refix” by D Malice as the series soundtrack.

Opening proceedings, Lady Leshurr pays tribute to the captain, Steph Houghton. The lyricist digs deep into the born leader, from her dominating performances in primary school to her scoring feats at the Olympics.

Next up, Little Simz tells us the story of unbreakable spirit; of a player who comes back from every knock a stronger person; of a 5’2 giant. Fran Kirby has battled adversity more than once and has risen time and again.

Finally, Ms Banks presents a tribute to one of the toughest in the game. Lucy Bronze, like so many female athletes, has had to overcome so much adversity. But it’s what made her the player she is today; a player who has consistently won trophies wherever she’s played.

England face Argentina in their next group game on Friday 14 June.
