adidas Spezial and New Order Drop AW20 Collection

Partnering with British band New Order for a collaborative capsule range, adidas Spezial launch their AW20 collection. The aesthetic of every piece links back to the repeated three-block New Order ‘Tour’ graphic they’ve used for recent live performances, while each product also features a co-branded sign-off.

Born out of a long lasting friendship between founder and curator, Gary Aspden, and the band, adidas Spezial have teamed up with New Order on the second part of their AW20 drop, and the two worked very closely on the project, with New Order travelling over to Herzogenaurach for each design meeting and sample review.

New Order's authentic connection to football culture is acknowledged and celebrated through a football jersey that uses their repeated 'Tour' graphic in a tonal engineered jacquard base fabric with elasticated ribbing on the neck and sleeve. The shirt references their music through the Latin wording used in the 'Mod Trefoil' badging along with a playful take on modern football kit sponsorship with the use of song title '586' across the chest.

That shirt is joined by an outerwear jacket inspired by lead singer of New Order, Bernard Sumner's love of sailing. The track jacket comes in a navy cotton and recycled PES blend pique material. the top takes inspiration from classic adidas track jackets (particularly the signature argyle print of Ivan Lendl) and re-appropriates that look and feel with a repeated print of their 'Tour' graphic sitting above the hem.  The logo tee comes in heather grey cotton and uses the '_nwrdSPZL' graphic underpinned by 'True Faith' in Latin. The 'Tour' logo appears as a wire frame graphic on the back of the shirt.

Rounding out the collection is the Wilsy SPZL, which comes in a premium clean white leather with a white translucent sole along with updated vamp details, co-branding and the subtle addition of white eyelets. The footbed carries the coloured 'Tour' graphic and the shoes with interchangeable branded lace jewels and reflective laces that offer a colour stab to a limited release of this iconic silhouette.
