After lighting up Los Angeles and Seoul, Nike’s Toma El Juego has touched down in Mexico City — the brand’s global street football platform making its Latin American debut in a way that only the Mexican capital could deliver.
Set against the backdrop of the iconic Anahuacalli Museum, a cultural landmark in the heart of the city, the one-day takeover was more than just a football tournament. It was an expression of Mexico City’s creative heartbeat, bringing together sport, music, food, and community in a celebration of the streets where the game truly lives.
At its core, Toma El Juego is about the raw, stripped-back version of football. Twelve teams — men and women — battled it out in a 3v3 format, captained by a line-up that blurred the lines between legends, athletes, and cultural figures. Each captain handpicked talent from across the city, shaping crews that pushed through group stages and knockouts before the ultimate final crowned the champions.
The football was the spark, but the wider experience turned the night into something bigger. Global icon Ronaldinho pulled up, joined by Mexican great Jorge Campos and current national team names like Alexis Vega, Diego Reyes, and Erik Lira. Music performances from El Malilla and Cachirula kept the energy high, while culinary offerings and customization zones gave the crowd a taste of local culture layered with Nike’s global vision.
Toma El Juego in Mexico City signalled Nike’s intent across Latin America. After its stop in CDMX, the platform is set to travel to Peru and Chile, with a broader rollout to Brazil, Argentina, and Colombia in 2026. For Nike, it’s a statement: football culture in the region is youth-led, unapologetically expressive, and ready to take centre stage.
Ultimately, Toma El Juego is built by Nike but born from the community — a celebration of the joy, freedom, and creativity that street football has always represented. Mexico City was the stage this time, but the movement is only just beginning.
