Framed #201: Manchester City v Aston Villa

The drama of the final day of the 21/22 Premier league season certainly didn’t disappoint, with the title race ebbing and flowing as the games progressed. Ultimately, there could be only one winner, and it was Manchester City that got the glory, and we were there to see the scenes unfold.

Heading into the final day of the Premier League, it was all to play for. Manchester City had a one point lead, with quadruple-chasing Liverpool pushing them right to the end. All that stood in City’s way? Aston Villa, led by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, with former Red Phillipe Coutinho amongst their ranks. All City had to do was win, a practice they are so well versed in… but there just had to be drama, didn’t there?

Doing things the hard way, City went 0-2 down to Villa, with the Etihad stunned into a virtual silence. Matty Cash’s header had been followed up by a sweet finish by – you guessed it – Coutinho. You couldn’t write a script like this. But then City showed just why they are deserved champions. Picking themselves up off the canvas they rallied, with substitute Ilkay Gundogan leading the charge. Three goals and five mad minutes later and they had flipped the result to their favour. And the rest, as they say, is history, Pep once again proving that he is the master of the 38-game campaign.
