F.C. Copenhagen x adidas Originals Step Into Creative Soccer Culture with ‘IN THIS CITY’

In a world where football clubs are increasingly embracing their influence beyond the pitch, F.C. Copenhagen have taken a bold stride into the creative unknown. Partnering once again with adidas Originals, the Danish champions have released IN THIS CITY — a 17-minute fictional short film that blurs the line between football, art, and identity. It’s a statement piece. A cinematic exploration of what it means to belong, to evolve, and to be shaped by the city you call home.

Following the launch of their Copenhagen Originals collection in September, this latest project sees F.C. Copenhagen push even further into the creative sphere — turning nostalgia into narrative and design into dialogue. Where the clothing line reimagined 1990s Copenhagen through the lens of streetwear, IN THIS CITY brings that same era to life through motion, character, and emotion.

So what’s it got to do with football? The answer is simultaneously nothing and a lot. No, football is not front and centre in the conventional sense, instead existing more as a background character. But it also shares some startling similarities with the Beautiful Game in terms of theme and community; life, like football, isn’t always smooth, plain sailing. There are ups and downs, gutters and strikes, bumps along the way. It’s how we get through these tests, these moments of trial and tribulation though. And more often than not it's as a collective, with those around us lending support, coming together. For a football club to dive into these themes along with its own identity in such fashion is nothing short of trailblazing.

Set against the unpolished streets that inspired both the club’s birth and its enduring mentality, the short film taps into Copenhagen’s raw 90s energy — a time defined by contrast, creativity, and unapologetic self-expression. Produced by Blonde Inc. and directed by Carl Feigenberg, in collaboration with Danish cultural magazine Soundvenue, the film captures the city’s texture and tone with unfiltered authenticity.

Starring Danish musician Emil Mercedes Baadsgaard (aka USSEL), IN THIS CITY follows its characters as they navigate the blurred lines between choice and circumstance — loyalty, legacy, and friendship woven into the fabric of their journeys. It’s not about football in the traditional sense, but about what football represents: community, connection, and the quiet strength found in others.

In This City explores Copenhagen’s originality. It’s a tribute to the city – to those who came before us and those daring to define who they want to become,” says Alfred Lauritzen, Partner & Executive Producer at Blonde Inc. “It captures a feeling many of us recognise – that moment in life when we’ve needed a teammate to get us back on track.

For F.C. Copenhagen, this isn’t just a marketing exercise. It’s a cultural manifesto. As Mads Poulsen Jefsen, the club’s Marketing Director, puts it: “IN THIS CITY follows the launch of Copenhagen Originals and highlights our connection to the city – its stories, characters, and diversity.

In doing so, the club joins a growing movement of teams redefining what football culture can look like — stepping into creative territories once reserved for fashion houses and filmmakers. The aesthetic of IN THIS CITY — from its vintage-inspired styling to its grounded storytelling — feels distinctly adidas Originals: classic yet subversive, authentic yet forward-looking.

Premiering at Park Bio, just a stone’s throw from F.C. Copenhagen’s home at Parken Stadium, the film marks another chapter in the club’s evolution. One where football is more than a game — it’s a language through which art, music, and style can speak.

In bridging the past and present, IN THIS CITY celebrates not just Copenhagen, but the cultural heartbeat that keeps the game alive beyond the white lines. It’s bold, it’s beautiful, and it’s another reminder that football’s creative renaissance is well underway — and F.C. Copenhagen are right at the centre of it.
