Power boots have almost taken a back seat this year due to the hugely successful speed boots from adidas and Nike. Nonetheless, there have been popular colour updates of the adidas Predator X football boots and the Nike T90 Laser III football boots.

The Predator continued its success throughout 2010, while the Laser III boots were given a World Cup update with the Elite editions. Other brands have also had their say with the like of Mizuno releasing the increasingly popular Wave Ignitus football boots. For all the power boots that hit football pitches throughout 2010, we've narrowed them down to our top 5.

The Predator X continued to impress throughout 2010 with new colour-ways being introduced. The latest was this Black/White/Electricity that was thrust into the spotlight when Dimitar Berbatov scored 5 goals in one game against Blackburn! The adidas Predator football boots have been adidas' longest serving silo. The Predator X marked 10 years of this incredibly successful boot. After reaching such a landmark, adidas are expected to take the Predator to new areas next year! But for now, the Predator X still sits at the top of the power boot mountain!

2010 saw the Nike T90 Laser III grow into a popular boot on and off the pitch. With a host of new exciting colour-ways and a successful K-Leather versions, the Nike Laser III became a fan and player favourite. The Laser III boots were worn by some of the world's best players in 2010 with the like of Wayne Rooney, Wesley Sneijder, and Fernando Torres all using the boots. Will it be able to take the Predator's crown as the best power boot of 2010?

Without doubt, one of the most surprisingly successful boots of 2010. Throughout the year, the Mizuno Wave Ignitus' strong reputation has grown massively due its precision and comfort, and it's refreshing to see a brand offering a power boot to compete with the big-dogs from Nike and adidas. The Wave Ignitus boots came to the attention of many during the World Cup due to Keisuke Honda grabbing headlines throughout the tournament! They could be the dark horse for the boot of the year!

Released way back in January 2010, the Puma PowerCat boots were a completely new boot design from Puma. They showed great strides in Puma boot development and offered a completely unique look that combined with a host of materials and technologies. Converts to the PowerCat boots in 2010 included Michael Carrick, Peter Crouch, Tomas Rosicky, Bacary Sagna and Nemanja Vidic. This latest White/Orange colourway was arguably the most striking and successful release of the range.

Concave continued to make impressions in the game in 2010 with two Manchester United footballers being added to their books. They were one of the new boys to the market in 2010 and made an immediate impression by offering something completely different. They developed their own concepts and visions for what a football boot should be. The stand-out feature of the PT+ boots was the technology developed in the upper that offered an increased ''sweet spot''. Amazingly, they offered an accuracy improvement of between 30-40% and an increase in power of 15-20%! Just for that, they deserve a place in our top 5!

So there you have the nominations for our Power Football Boot of the Year 2010. We're sure there's plenty of opinions on the boots nominated, it's a tough one to call but we think we've selected the top five most popular Power boots for 2010.
