Football News > Luka Modrić & Alexander Büttner Reveal Nike Mercurial Vapor IX

The excitement surrounding the launch of the Nike Vapor IX is building. This past weekend we were given a sure sign that the official launch isn't too far away. Thankfully some players don't care too much for an embargo date! Real Madrid's Luka Modric and Manchester United defender Alex Buttner have both given us an early preview of what to expect this January.

United defender Alex Buttner yesterday took to his Twitter account (@ButtnerBrothers) to reveal his Nike Vapor IX boots ahead of Manchester United's morning training session. It's become common for practise for Nike players to tweet pictures of their new boots, but we have a feeling Buttner might have gone rouge with this pic!

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luka Modric used Madrid's open training session to test out his flash new boots. Nike treated the Croatian to the Fireberry/Green/Red colourway that will be released alongside Buttner's Sunset/Volt/Crimson/Black design. Both boots are scheduled for a mid Jan release.

What better way to kick of 2013 than with a Mercurial Vapor launch! Let us know your first impressions of the Nike Mercurial Vapor IX. Join the conversation online, on Twitter and on Facebook

I'm assuming this is the stealth or the old "superfly" with the aplit carbon soleplate, not the regular vapor with it's typical glass soleplate. Looking forward for a spy from the plate.

The prototypes showed a half carbon-fiber, half glass fibre soleplate, the latest pictures have the Vapor XI with an all Glass-Fiber soleplate. I guess this means that the Silver/Black/Volt colorway wont be released at the same time? Those were lush, and didn't have the dimpled upper.

What happened to the two year cycle boots (and kits) used to stick to?? Seems like the boot market has lost its way at the moment, IMO it reduces the appeal and hype that was created every two years, now it's less than a year or so after a brand new boot is released that a new one is released shortly after.

I agree with MParry.

Back in the day, a football kit would last a team 2 seasons.

Football boots would also last 2 years.

1 year for a boot is kind of a waste.

Introducing new tech, but at the same time already improving upon it, I think that's kinda silly.

Surely it takes a couple of years for the testing to get done.

MV4 launched Jan 2008, MV5 launched August 2009 - 18 months is better than 12, or less than 12 in some cases

The yellow/volt ones with the orange NIKE stamp would suit Barcelona's away kit.

Some of the other colourways that will be released are AMAZING, very bright in true Vapor fashion

exotic colour ways - interesting design - the spec will be intriguing, especially to see if it actually makes a difference with the dimpled upper.

Nasty... I want a re-release of the MV3 or something very similar like the CR7 colourway were the swoosh was in the middle and on the instep.
