Football News > Global Football Boots Spotting - 06/08/12

It was a weekend where Messi & Ronaldo both stepped out in new footwear. Pre-season is hotting up while Olympic football continues to throw in a selection of interesting spots. See what players and boots have caught our eye this week as the countdown to the 12/13 season ticks down.

Lionel Messi (Barcelona) adidas f50 adizero miCoach

Lionel Messi scored from the spot in Barcelona's 2-2 draw with PSG. The Argentine was sporting his latest f50 adizero miCoach Silver/Red colourway – soon to be featured on SoccerBible. The metallic boots certainly boast a stand-out design, and were a good match for Barca's new away jersey.

Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) Nike Mercurial Vapor VIII

It feels like we've seen Cristiano Ronaldo in this colourway many times before. From the Superfly I to the Mercurial Safari, the Real Madrid man was once again sporting the familiar looking design – this time titled Seaweed/Red. Real Madrid were in pre-season action, taking on Santos Laguna in a World Football Challenge match.

David Sobisek (Viktoria Zizkov) Nike Mercurial Miracle

It's not often that we bring you boot-spots from the second tier of Czech football, but David Sobisek's footwear caught our eye this week. The Viktoria Zizkov player - surprisingly making his SoccerBible debut - was spotted wearing a pair of Black/Pink Mercurial Miracle football boots as his side took on a team we know a little more about, FC Parma.

Benoit Assou-Ekotto (Tottenham) Under Armour Hydrastrike Pro

Tottenham full-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto is yet to settle on a pair of boots for the new season. The Cameroon international has ditched his adidas football boots in favour of the clubs new sponsor, Under Armour – we imagine there's a contract involved. Last week he was wearing the 10K Force Pro II. This week it was the Hydrastrike Pro as Tottenham took on Watford.

Lewis McGugan (Notingham Forest) Nike CTR360 Maestri III

Admittedly, we're not the biggest fans of the Sonic Yellow CTR360 Maestri III football boots. But like Nottingham Forest's Lewis McGugan, we're loving the Black/White/Crimson release – and we can see why McGugan has opted for this colourway. The CTR wearing midfielder was spotted wearing the new boots as his side took on Aston Villa in a pre-season friendly.

Desiree Scott (Canada) Nike Mercurial Talaria V

Desiree Scott is another player to bring her custom football boots under the spotlight of the Olympic Games. The Canadian midfielder was spotted wearing her custom Nike iD Mercurial Talaria V football boots that fuse together black, green and pink. Scott kicked off her Olympics wearing another pair of Nike iD Tiempo Legend IV football boots, but soon switched to her crazy coloured Mercurials.

Jem Karacan (Reading) adidas Predator LZ SL

Reading midfielder Jem Karacan doesn’t mind flirting with different adidas football boots. Last season the Turkish born player wore both the adizero and adiPower, but now looks to be experimenting with the Predator LZ SL – a boot that strictly speaking, should offer the benefits of both. Hopefully he'll stick with them as Reading begin another season in the Premier League.

Tom Huddlestone (Tottenham) Puma PowerCat 1.12

Tottenham's Tom Huddlestone is another player who's using pre-season as a testing ground for new boots. After an injury-plagued season wearing the adidas Predator, the midfielder has joined Puma and is currently deciding which silo to settle on. Having already tested out the King SL last week, Huddlestone was in action wearing the PowerCat 1.12 as Tottenham took on Watford.

Sami Khedira (Real Madrid) Nike CTR360 Maestri III

Real Madrid defender Sami Khedira is another player to buck the Sonic Yellow CTR trend and opt for the Black/White/Crimson colourway. The German international has been a long term wearer of the CTR range and wasted no time in landing a pair of the Maestri III football boots. Real Madrid were in Las Vegas for a World Football Challenge match against Club Santos Laguna.

Romelu Lukaku (Chelsea) Nike iD T90 Strike IV

Romelu Lukaku began his Chelsea career as an adidas player, wearing the adiPower Predator before switching to the f50 adizero. Recently the Belgian has been wearing the White/Green T90 Laser IV Clash edition boots in pre-season. But for Chelsea's latest match against Brighton & Hove Albion, Lukaku has taken his T90's down a tier, designing his own pair of White/Black Nike iD T90 Strike IV boots.

Lauren Cheney (USA) Under Armour Hydrastrike Pro

Official Under Armour athlete Lauren Cheney gave us a look at her second Hydrastrike Pro Olympic colourway as the USWNT took on New Zealand in their Quarter Final match. After wearing the brighter White/Blue/Silver edition for most of The Games, the midfielder stepped out wearing Under Armour's darker alternative made specifically for the 2012 Olympics.

Giovani dos Santos (Mexico) Nike CTR360 Maestri II

Former Tottenham midfielder Giovani dos Santos has worn the Nike CTR360 for some time now but is currently unattached to any brand. Either the Mexican international is after a boot contract or just isn't a fan of the White/Blue Clash CTR colourway. Santos was spotted wearing his blacked-out Maestri II football boots as his country took on Senegal in the Olympic Quarter Final match-up.
