Football News > Euro 2012 - Top Scoring Football Boots

Where there once was football a void fills the gap, in wait of the Olympics and the domestic season to kick-off! That doesn't mean we can't look back on the summer that was and marvel at Euro 2012, more importantly the football boots that came out to play...

Throughout the Euro 2012 tournament, we kept a count of the football boots worn by the players scoring the goals. The back of the net was found on more than 70 occasions with some particularly memorable goals, who can forget Ibrahimovic's technically perfect strike or Andy Carroll's towering header?

One boot in particular stood out at the tournament, as the Nike Mercurial Vapor Clash football boots were worn by players contributing no less than 20 goals, double the nearest boot rival! Thanks to goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Mesut Ozil and Juan Mata adding to the goal tally.

It was a good tournament all round for the Nike Clash Collection, which claimed four of the top five positions in the scoring charts and also the Golden Boot. Thanks to a combination of Fernando Torres' goals, assists and minutes on the pitch beating Mario Gomez, Cristiano Ronaldo, Mario Balotelli, Mario Mandzukic and Alan Dzagoev to the award.

As for the various brands, PUMA and Mizuno can be proud of respectable performances from the evoSPEED and Morelia Neo. For adidas the Predator LZ might not have ranked highly on the score chart, but they were the boots worn by midfield maestro Xavi, whilst the F50 adizero grabbed the winning headlines in the final thanks to Jordi Alba and David Silva.

After an exciting tournament we'd love to hear your opinions on Euro 2012, which football boots and players impressed you the most? Have your say and join the conversation online, on Twitter and on Facebook.

Did you count goals with head shot or only goal with foot shoot? Bs Shevcenko scored 2x but with his head, not shoes:-)

Anyway "Mizuno rulezzzz". I saw only 2-3players wear Mizuno(CSKA Moscow player, teammates Kesuke Honda, Mizuno propagator). Dzagojev scored 2 goals n he will score more goals.

@cannavaro5zidane How many more Adidas sponsored teams are there compared to the Nike sponsored teams? @Ade Akinbadboi: Mandzukic scored 2x, official stats in  You are wrong with definition own goal, bs it was shoot from Mandzukic.

There is new rule about own goal, that if player shoot in target and any opponent touch or move trajectory ball and player still score goal. It will count as (player who shoot)his goal not own goal. So indeed Mandzukic scored twice.

I am fan Vapors from version 2 till ver.8. I worn lots of Preds(4version), 2Copas, Adipure 2, Lotto, CTR I.

But Mizuno is amazing comfortable shoes. Never had better comfortable feeling like this. Simply amazing. Maybe i am getting older(age), so for me first place now is comfort, leather not gimmicks, techs, syntetic, blister, break in time,...

Never imagine that Nike will lead like that. Players wear more Nike than Adidas. I though Adidas n Nike have same amount players. I dont know if the reason are Predators LZ n 11Pro, even main face for LZ´s Nasri switch to F50. For me they wasted, destroyed their two most powerful lines.

@ Gboy...are your being serious?  I think it's quite clear that the new Predator is not a strikers boot and the majority of strikers are wearing Vapor...which means more goals.  If I was Nike I'd be more worried as to why their 'striker' boot (T90) is so far behind their speed boot.

Nike Tiempo is best herritage shoes for sure(Pirlo wear it). Nike do it well and didnot wasted their best lines not like Adidas with Preds and Adipure.

You may think it a coincidence, but look how many of those boots shown are mainly white.

I studied Sports Psychology and white was the favourite colour choice for a boot for 83% of my case study.

Unconciously, white tends to make you play better. It seems silly I know, but it's true.

It would take me way too long to explain fully but it's the same concept as making goalkeer tops orange as the colour orange seems to confuse the brain most (dazzling strikers).

White is quite a calming colour, it's very visible and in a sense that most would not understand, it is a 'flat' colour.

Not only that, but it's an attractive, clean colour and another theory "look good, feel good" and in this instance "play good" also comes into play.

I appreciate that unless you guys have taken the same courses as me that you would probably be a little baffled by the points above and no doubt think I'm talking nonsense.

However, just take a look guys, look how many of the brands have decided to use mainly white...
