i think he is over rated, if xavi and iniesta have a bad day he has a sucky day too. They say that ronaldo "disappears" in the big games but the last to clasicos he was on the scoreboard, and one them i scored the winning goal. also back in 08 when he played for man u, he scored a goal in the champions league final. messi really hasnt been the player people believes he is during finals either, or tell when was the last time that he pulled a man of the match performance in the 8 finals barcelona has played? not really... he is good, but he'll never be as ronaldinho

@afilipo21 That can be said for most forwards, and is no discredit to his ability. If midfield and defense are unable to get the ball up the field, then the forwards can't score goals, can they? Doesn't mean the forwards are bad.

The fact of the matter is, Messi has amazing ability. Not even including his ball skills. He has an incredible ability to change direction and accelerate amazingly quickly. This is the main reason he can get past defense so quickly. He doesn't need to use fancy skills simply because he can stop and go in another direction, and reach a high speed so quickly that the defender can't keep up with him.

Ronaldo is also amazingly good due to his ball skills and high sprint speed, but he can't change direction and accelerate like Messi can. This means Ronaldo generally relies on feinting to get past a defender, and then racing them to the goal. But if he is against a defender faster or as fast as him, he isn't very affective (Ashley Cole, for one). Granted, Ronaldo has probably put more effort into being good, but Messi is naturally gifted beyond Ronaldo.

@ Ratchet. I agree with you but there is one flaw in your logic. Messi is very great at changing direction and pace very quickly, but over time what will happen when he gets older. When he becomes slower that will be catostrophic to his career. Ronaldinho and Ronaldo are different types of players that Messi. when Messi gets slower than he will have a harder time at doing anything close to what he is doing now. Now don't get me wrong I am  huge fan of Messi, but he is going to hurt later on in his career. You even though Ronaldo and Ronaldonho got slower, they have great footskills to get them out of trouble. Messi is good at cutting between the lines at a high speed but that will not always work. and @ afilipo. He is not over rated. have you been on soccerbible latley. Is it me or does he create a crazy amount of assists for his team. I would like to see Ronaldo score like Messi and create those amazing Chances like Messi. Messi scores a lot and is a create playmaker as well. He is like Xavi and Iniesta combined with Ronaldo. and @ football07. He could do it in the EPL too. Your not good In one league and then bad in another because it has the title EPL. Come one. In the EPL there are a few good players but the other great players play around the world not just in England. Sorry bro but if Messi can do well in the La Liga then he will do just as well in the EPL if he were to go to a team there. Look at the players that don't play in the EPL and are better than most strikers in the EPL. Let's see Samuel Et'to,Frank Ribery, Arjen Robben, Messi, David Villa, Robinho, Alexandre Pato, Ronaldinho.That's just a few that I know right I off the bat. I can come up with more if you like. Now let's look at the stikers in EPL. You have Torres, Tevez, Rooney, and Berbatov plus a few just ok strikers and young guns coming up. Now you are Probably going to add to my list, but do Keep in mind that I am talking about strikers that have their names mentioned on the Daily basis. I wouldn't consider that a flaw in my logic. Whether or not his physical ability declines with age doesn't change anything I have said. This rule applies to most speedy players. How many 30-40 year old wingers are there that are as fast and nimble as they were when they were in there early 20's? It is a known fact that wingers are generally in the prime in their early 20's due to their pace declining with age. This usually results in them changing to another position as they age. He still has amazing ball control, dribbling, passing and shooting skills, even if he doesn't nutmeg every player he goes by. I think he has the potential for a long career in other positions, even if he does lose his pace. Let's face it, it is not like he was going to be the best player in the world for 10 years in a row, was he?

@madridfan792, it's difficult because the game in Spain and England is very different. You saw how Ronaldo was treated, when he skipped past a defender, the defender would 9/10 try to foul him or bring him down.... That's why people say he goes down too easily but he stays on his feet the majority of the time, he became strong because although many defenders try to bring him down but they cannot maanage it, he's too strong, this doesn't happen in the Spainsh leagues, Messi wouldn't in my opinion be strong enough to stay on his feet in the EPL, sure he is quicker with the ball at his feet but remember the RM vs BARCELONA match a few days back, RM were playing very rough, just like the EPL players would, every time Messi or Villa ran past a defender with the ball they were brought down emmediately, Messi couldn't play well that game at all, when this happened to Ronaldo in the EPL he managed to stay up most of the time because he was strong enough, Messi (as seen in the previous match) was not strong enough, his entire game is dribbling so how would he play well in a league when defenders stonger then him and are happy to bring him down at the expense of a free kick?

And let's not forget to mention in Spain they call very Ricky tack fouls but in England the reffs really let you play so a lot of these hips checks or body pushes that knocked messi down won't be called too often I believe and I've watched plenty of EPL matches. And I'm not saying messi is scared to come to England cause he has a good thing going for him with a solid team that's mainly why he's so successful cause look at him for Argentina, he's good but the talent around him isn't as good so his play suffers. aside from all the arguing(bahahaha)...messi and ronaldo are both amazing players to watch and to learn from. they hav 2 different playing styles. the reason why they are compared is becus they hav such a large impact on their teams...not becus they are similar. i luv watching both because ronaldo is such an entertainer while messi can show you how to dribble at speeds and really work with the team. they both get assists, and they both score goals....u gotta love it <3
