With Liverpool having a disastrous season and the club's future in the balance, we ask whether the time is right for Kop hero Steven Gerrard to leave Liverpool?
Steven Gerrard has dedicated two decades of his life to Liverpool football club, and led the team to some fantastic victories and truly historic moments. But as the club plunges into trouble, and rumours surface over Gerrard's future we ask whether now would be a good time to leave.
Gerrard has given 100% to the club yet doesn't have the medal cabinet to show for his efforts, surely it's time the football club invested and gave something in return. And if they are unable to, would you begrudge Gerrard a move to a club that can bring him success OR should Gerrard stay loyal to the club that made him, and take his place amongst the Anfield Legends?
BILL MANN (The First Post) - "Gerrard is in a similar state of mind to the one he found himself in during the dog days of Gerrard Houllier's reign when he nearly signed for Chelsea...Last time he stayed, but now age is against the player. Gerrard turns 30 at the end of the season and may move on in a bid to finally get a league title under his belt."
DUNCAN WRIGHT (Daily Star) - "Time is running out for him if he wants to win more honours...The big fear is that it will take at least a couple of years before Liverpool can build a team able to challenge for the title again, and that there may not even be enough money around for them to do that."
RAFA BENITEZ (Liverpool manager) - "I want to keep the best players, players that are normally playing more games because with these players we can be closer to the top four. We won't have to sell our big players...We have a good squad and it can be even better if we sign someone else."
STEVEN GERRARD (Liverpool captain) - "All the stories about me leaving are unfounded. The fans can be assured that I am doing all I can to get back to top form and help Liverpool finish the season on a high."
