Football News > SoccerBible Review of 2009 Part 1

The SoccerBible shares our definitive review of 2009 -  The last 12 months have included some amazing new football boots, some great on-pitch action, breaking football news and gossip as well as plenty of debate and opinion...

JANUARY 2009

On the SoccerBible...

We spied some interesting boots in the Bundesliga, watched Arjen Robben and his F50i radio, had a big debate about whether Becks should stay or go and checked out Gael Clichy's personalised Umbro Boots.

In Football Boot Releases...

We got our hands on two new colourways of the Nike T90 Laser II boots, Obsidian/White/Silver and White/Black/Blue Sapphire. David Beckham sported a new adidas Predator PowerSwerve ClimaCool DB boot, whilst also attempting to win the award for the longest name of a football boot and we also got to grips with a classic coloured Puma King XL and the adidas adiPure II cleats.

Around the World in Football...

The winter transfer window was firmly flung open, and amid all the back-page speculation the big movers were Andrei Arshavin to Arsenal, David Beckham's loan move to AC Milan, Robbie Keane returned to Spurs and the will-he-won't-he saga of Kaka to Manchester City (he pledged his future to AC Milan at the time).

Elsewhere, Cristiano Ronaldo escaped from crashing his brand new Ferrari unharmed, Wembley won the right to host the 2011 Champions League final, Steven Gerrard went to court and Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar set a new English Premier League record for clean sheets.

FEBRUARY 2009

On the SoccerBible...

We shared David Bentley's trick shot stunt, checked out David Beckham's Predator History, found out about Xabi Alonso and Gareth Barry's teammates and got all excited about the launch of the NikeFives country-wide tournament.

In Football Boot Releases...

At arguably the event of the year, the SoccerBible had front row seats to the official launch of the Nike Mercurial Superfly with Cristiano Ronaldo. The revolutionary boot caused a huge stir, only for the boot-buying public to be let down as production issues caused a delay in release. However, the Superfly would be back later in the year!

The Superfly essentially overshadowed everything else this month, however adidas released a new Predator PS Control to a mixed reaction and Nike followed up with a new colourway for the Ronaldinho Dois.

Around the World in Football...

Raul became Real Madrid's record goalscorer, Chelsea dismissed Luiz Felipe Scolari and appointed Guus Hiddink as temporary coach until the end of the season,Portsmouth sacked boss Tony Adams

MARCH 2009

On the SoccerBible...
We interviewed the one and only Cristiano Ronaldo, and gave away a pair of the innovative new Nike Vapor Superfly football boots. Our Boot Spotters went undercover at Arsenal, and we followed the journey of Frank Lampard's adiPure football boots from box-to-box!

In Football Boot Releases...
There was a unique collaboration between Ferrari and Puma to create the fastest football boots on the planet - the v1.815 football boots. And whilst we're talking about speed, Nike upgraded their Mercurial range by releasing the Vapor V football boots. Meanwhile adidas launched their classy Rome collection to celebrate the Champions League.

Around the World in Football...
Rafa Benitez signed a new five-year deal at Liverpool, Beckham continued to be the top earner in football and Ronaldo made his debut for Corinthians.

APRIL 2009

On the SoccerBible...
We launched the world famous Gospel awards to find out which football boots were Gospel nominated to win their Gospel category. Celebrated 20 years of Ryan Giggs at the top, following the Welsh wizards' PFA Players award, received a very special gift pair of football boots from adidas and investigated Steven Gerrard the Man in Black!

In Football Boot Releases...
Following a host of new releases in March, April was a very quiet month for boot releases with the silence broken only by the Mizuno Wave Ghost football boots. A bold new boot from Mizuno, incorporating innovative technology and design, and unlike anything we've seen from Mizuno before.

Around the World in Football...
Football legend Paolo Maldini announced his retirement from the game. Bayern Munich sacked Jurgen Klinsmann, and both Liverpool and AC Milan signalled their intent to keep star players Xabi Alonso and Kaka, obviously didn't signal enough!

Join the SoccerBible tomorrow as we continue our look back at the footballing year that was 2009...
