Barcelona remain five points clear of Real Madrid after both teams won their matches. Barca beat neighbours Espanyol 1-0 thanks to an Ibrahimovic penalty. Real had Garay to thank after he scored an 83rd minute winner, to edge out Valencia 3-2. Sevilla climbed above Valencia after defeating Sporting Gijon.

Schalke moved to within one point of leaders Bayer Leverkusen after they capitalised on another Leverkusen draw, by beating Werder Bremen 2-0.
