Football News > Football Boots - Champions League Boot Spotting - 10/12/09

We say goodbye to the Champions League group stages with a flurry of goals, and a host of intrigueing football boots. We saw some brand new football boots on the pitch for the first time, and some classics that the players a refusing to give up...

BRUNO ALVES

Nike Vapor Superfly football boots

Bruno Alves and team-mate Cristian Rodriguez both debuted a stunning new yellow Vapor Superfly colourway as Porto defeated Atletico Madrid 3-0, and it was Alves who scored the opening goal, leaping to head the ball home.

MICHAEL OWEN

Umbro Speciali football boots

Does one good performance warrant a World Cup place? The debate will rage on but it does prove one thing, Owen has not lost his goalscoring ability give him a chance and he will score. Let's not forget that it was less than ten years ago Owen was voted European Player of the Year - Form is temporary, class is permanent!

YOSSI BENAYOUN

Nike Mercurial Vapor football boots

An interesting boot swap by Benayoun, who played the first half for Liverpool wearing the Vapor Superfly football boots and scored a goal. But then came out for the second half wearing his old Vapor III football boots. Obviously a favourite edition of the players, as we have previously seen Eduardo and Luka Modric wearing their Vapor 3's.

FREDERIC KANOUTE

Joma Total Fit 91 football boots

Joma are a Spanish football boots brand that don't receive the coverage they deserve, and the Total Fit is a quality K-leather boot. Benefitting from a one-piece material upper was Freddie Kanoute, who scored the only goal as Sevilla beat Rangers.

HANS JORG BUTT

adidas World Cup football boots

This was a straight-forward game between Juventus and Bayern Munich, with the winner progressing. And goalkeeper Hans Jorg Butt had the confidence to step up and hit Bayern's penalty when they were trailing 1-0, which set Bayern up for a 4-1 victory. Butt was wearing the classic adidas World Cup football boots, quality enough to rival any modern boot.

CRISTIANO RONALDO

Nike Vapor Superfly football boots

Cristiano Ronaldo reminded everyone why he is the world's most expensive player, and so important to the Real Madrid team. Hitting a trademark rocket freekick from distance, before scoring a late goal to help Madrid to a 3-1 victory, and Ronaldo was able to generate an impressive amount of power from his Superfly football boots!.

TOM CRUISE

Umbro Speciali football boots

Whilst the movie star was a guest at Sevilla as they defeated Rangers, Arsenal had their very own Tom Cruise turning out against Olympiakos. It was a brave effort from the defender, playing in Umbro Speciali football boots, but unfortunately Wenger's young guns were defeated 1-0 in Greece.

ALBERTO AQUILANI

Nike Tiempo Legend III football boots

Making his first start for Liverpool, all eyes were on Aquilani who was wearing Nike Legend III football boots. He had an impressive first half, and was encouraging as he wanted to move play forward, but unfortunately his match fitness became apparent as he faded in the second half.

XAVI

adidas Predator PowerSwerve football boots

Xavi scored as Barcelona topped their Champions League group, but the midfielder seems reluctant to give up his Predator PowerSwerve football boots. Xavi was playing in the Predator Rome editions, that he wore last season to help Barcelona lift the trophy.

MARIO BALOTELLI

Nike CTR360 Maestri football boots

Balotelli is a bit of a temperamental talent, but he showed his potential by smashing a brilliant long-range freekick into the roof of the net, confirming Inter's progression to the knockout stages. Balotelli was playing in the Nike CTR360 Maestri football boots, and he was actually one of the first players to convert and benefit from Nike's latest range.
