Football News > Football Boots - Premier League head-to-head winners!

Which players came out on top in the Premier League's head-to-head clashes? These are the players that won their battles and helped their team...

Fabregas (Arsenal) v Essien (Chelsea) Winner:

MICHAEL ESSIEN

Essien came out on top in this battle, because although Fabregas impressed during the first half he made minimal impact after Chelsea took the lead. Essien's workrate over the 90 minutes was exceptional and he never gave an Arsenal player time on the ball.

Edwards (Wolves) v Bowyer (Birmingham) Winner:

LEE BOWYER

After scoring the crucial winning goal Lee Bowyer was definitely the winner in this head-to-head battle. It was a great strike from Bowyer as he shot from the edge of the area, off his Nike Laser ShotShield, and placed the ball perfectly above the keeper into the top corner.

Rodwell (Everton) v Gerrard (Liverpool) Winner:

STEVEN GERRARD

This wasn't the most attractive game of football and Gerrard struggled to make an impact, although he was making every effort to lead by example despite not being 100% fit. But as Rodwell didn't feature there can only be one winner in this head-to-head battle!

Agbonlahor (Aston Villa) v Defoe (Tottenham) Winner:

GABRIEL AGBONLAHOR

Defoe looked dangerous and lively throughout the game, as Spurs had seven shots on goal compared to Aston Villa's one. However, it was Agbonlahor who made the decisive contribution by scoring in the 10th minute.

We've picked the key on-field battles from the biggest games of the weekend including some huge derby matches, and we want to know who YOU think will come out on top? The winners of these head-to-head battles will be influential on their team recording a victory in the Premier League...

Sunday 29th November
16:00 - Arsenal v Chelsea
How involved in the game these two midfielders are, will be crucial to their sides performance. It is likely they will face each other in the Chelsea half, with Fabregas attempting to get forward and Essien trying to break up their attacks so he can build for Chelsea.

CESC FABREGAS

This season Fabregas has been in sensational form, and he has really enjoyed playing in his new Nike CTR360 football boots. The Arsenal captain has become a more advanced player, who is not just instrumental in attack but is more than capable of scoring himself. But Chelsea are a difficult side to break down, and he'll need to show something special for Arsenal to be victorious.

MICHAEL ESSIEN

Since Essien's return from injury last season he has proved how crucial he is to the Chelsea side. He may not take the glory like Lampard, Drogba and Anelka but there is no doubt he is one of the best midfielders in the world, and he can strike quite a mean shot from his Nike Laser football boots! Essien will have the task of keeping Cesc Fabregas quiet on Sunday, a role he has played before by taking Steven Gerrard out of the game.

Sunday 29th November 12:00 - Wolverhampton Wanderers v Birmingham City
Both players have been ever present in their sides this season, and play vital roles in their teams midfield. Both will be desperate for all three points to avoid relegation, and as this is a derby match we can expect it to get physical.

DAVID EDWARDS

The Welsh midfielder is still young and is enjoying testing himself against world class opposition in the Premier League. However, this isn't a game for personal development, as Wolves will need Edwards to be winning the midfield battles and arriving late in the box to support attacks and get numbers forward. The hard-working midfielder opts for the all k-leather Nike Legend boots to perform over 90 minutes.

LEE BOWYER

Lee Bowyer has been enjoying a resurgence lately and really looks to be enjoying his football at the moment. His ability has never been in question, let's not forget he has played for England and almost joined Liverpool, but it is his attitude that has always come in to question. But Bowyer seems to have shrugged off his bad reputation, and will need to continue playing good football in the middle with Barry Ferguson if Birmingham are to win.

Sunday 29th November 13:30 - Everton v Liverpool
Another Premier League derby, and another game that could be quite a heated affair. But these two players could almost be master and apprentice, with one at the start of a potentially successful career and the other established himself as one of the best midfielders in the world.

JACK RODWELL

Jack Rodwell has shown he has all the potential to be a great midfielder. He is only 18 yet he is playing Premier League football, and does so wearing adiPure football boots to help his ball touch match his technique. Playing against Steven Gerrard will be a huge test for the youngster, but will he be intimidated or will he show everyone in Liverpool there is another great midfielder in town?

STEVEN GERRARD

adidas Predator X football boots

Gerrard loves playing in the Merseyside derby, as a born and bred Liverpool fan it is one of the biggest games of the season. Liverpool will be looking to their inspirational captain as they look to turn around their season. The team is more than capable of doing so, but is an away game to Everton too tough place to do it, or can Gerrard rise to the occasion and pull out something special.

Saturday 28th November
17:30 - Aston Villa v Tottenham Hotspur
These two strikers aren't just competing on the field against each other, they are competing for a place in Fabio Capello's England World Cup squad. Both are match-winners and goal scorers, but who will shine in this game and help their team to victory?

GABRIEL AGBONLAHOR

Nike Vapor Superfly football boots

Agbonlahor plays in the Superfly football boots as he is one of the fastest players in the Premier League, so he benefits from a lightweight boot with Flywire technology. Tottenham have a notoriously slow defence which Agbonlahor will be looking to capitalise on and get behind. He just needs to be more accurate with his shooting and takes the chances he gets, because undoubtedly he could already have more goals this season.

JERMAIN DEFOE

adidas F50i football boots

Defoe is a player who will take any chance he gets, and after his five goal haul against Wigan he is looking particularly sharp at the moment. Goal scoring chances at Villa could be limited, so Defoe's ability to take his chances could prove crucial. And whilst Agbonlahor wears the Nike speed boot, Defoe plays in adidas F50 speed football boots, so it will be interesting to see who can cause the opposition defences the most problems.
