There was a strong showing from the new Nike Vapor Platinum colourway in the Confederations Cup, as they contributed no less than five goals in the final two matches of the tournament.
Brazil produced a stunning second-half performance to come back from two goals down, to beat the USA 3-2 in the final and win the Confederations Cup. Clint Dempsey had given the United States a shock lead scoring in Platinum Nike Mercurial Superfly football boots, which was doubled fifteen minutes later by Landon Donovan, finishing an excellent counter-attacking move in Nike Mercurial Vapor IV football boots.
But Brazil's second half display was relentless, with all the contributors and scorers of Brazil's goals playing in new football boots. Luis Fabiano scored two goals from Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly football boots, his first coming in the 46th minute, and helping the striker to end the tournament top goalscorer. The winning goal came six minutes from time, as Elano crossed from Blaze Nike T90 Laser II football boots for Brazilian captain Lucio, wearing adidas Predator Confederations football boots, to head a dramatic winning goal.
In the Third Place Play-off there was another great showing from the new Platinum Vapor colourway. As South Africa's Katlego Mphela scored two goals form his Nike Vapor V football boots, including a stunning long range free-kick in added time to send the game into extra-time. However, it was the new black/gold adidas adiPure II football boots that reigned supreme, as Xabi Alonso equalled Mphela's effort with his own free-kick in the 107th minute to break South African hearts!
