Tevez insists he will leave Man City - 13/12/10

Carlos Tevez insists he will leave Manchester City because his relations with "certain executives" at the club have "broken down beyond repair".

City have turned down a written transfer request from the 26-year-old Argentina striker, who is reported to want to leave Eastlands for family reasons. The player stressed that he has "no personal issue" with manager Roberto Mancini.

"It is something I have felt for some time and have spent many hours thinking this through," he said. In a statement, the Manchester City captain - who joined from rivals Manchester United 17 months ago - thanked club owner Sheikh Mansour for his "understanding and support". Tevez also revealed he first asked to leave this summer, and claimed he was convined to stay by his adviser Kia Joorabchian.

City's board have pinned the blame on Joorabchian, describing his actions in relation to Tevez's situation as "disappointing". But the player himself stated: "I hugely resent suggestions that I have been unduly influenced by others. I wanted to leave in the summer, but was convinced to return. Sadly, my feelings have not changed. "I am disappointed that the management should now see fit to try to portray the situation in another light.

"My relationship with certain executives and individuals at the club has broken down and is now beyond repair. I do not wish to expand on this at this stage. They know, because I have told them."

City have claimed they have done everything they could to help Tevez, whose two young daughters live in Argentina, deal with his personal issues. His contract at Eastlands has three-and-half years to run, and City claimed Joorabchian had, in recent months, been pressing for that deal to be extended.

Earlier on Sunday, a statement from the club read: "This is both an unfortunate and unwelcome distraction, and the club will remain focused on the games ahead in what is turning out to be a very promising season."

Following their 3-1 win at West Ham on Saturday, City are second in the Premier League, level on points with leaders Arsenal but having played one match more. Tevez has been a key part of their success since joining from rivals Manchester United in the summer of 2009 after a two-year spell on loan at Old Trafford. The forward scored 23 goals in his first season at Eastlands, and has netted 10 of their 24 so far in this campaign.

Mark Hughes was full of praise for his Manchester City players following their 3-1 victory over West Ham. The Blues gave an impressive display at Eastlands as they eased to a fifth win in six Premier League outings to move within three points of joint leaders Manchester United and Chelsea, with a game in hand.

Carlos Tevez, facing his former club as he was on target twice, while Martin Petrov scored the other. City, who should have won by more, delighted Hughes.

"I thought some of our play was excellent tonight," he said. "It was about getting the job done. We have seen the results over the weekend and we knew we were in for a challenge this evening. West Ham are a good team, they try and play the game the right way, and we had to make sure they didn't have a positive impact on the game in terms of creating chances and putting us under pressure.

"But I thought we were excellent from start to finish. We showed real purpose and a real determination to get the job done and won the game quite comfortably."

Hughes admitted that City suffered something of a derby hangover in their Carling Cup encounter with Fulham last week, but he is confident that the 4-3 defeat to Manchester United firmly is firmly behind them now.

"We move on," he said defiantly. "It was a big game, the derby, as everybody understands and we had a little bit of a reaction on Wednesday in terms of emotion and physicality of the game. We won the game on the Wednesday, though, and we won again this evening so we are in good shape.

"We are enjoying our football and we are playing well at the moment. We have got big performances from big players in the team and that is what we need."

Football Talk - Man City not a threat & Tevez not worth the money - Ferguson - 21/07/09

Sir Alex Ferguson believes Manchester City will pose little threat to Manchester United's domestic supremacy this season. City manager Mark Hughes has spent lavishly this summer in an attempt to build a squad squad capable of breaking into the top four.

But United manager Ferguson said: "It won't be easy for them to win anything, even with the players they have bought. I can't look at them as our main competitors. Liverpool and Chelsea are our main competitors."

Emmanuel Adebayor is the latest addition to City's squad, which has already been boosted by the arrival of Gareth Barry, Roque Santa Cruz and former United favourite Carlos Tevez. Striker Adebayor was signed from Arsenal for about £25m, midfielder Barry came from Aston Villa for £12m, Paraguayan frontman Santa Cruz cost £18m from Blackburn, while City paid £25m for Tevez.

Many United fans are unhappy at Tevez's departure but Ferguson feels the Argentine was not worth the money. "I didn't think he was worth £25m - that's just my judgement, maybe I am wrong," added Ferguson. "The fans quite rightly have their heroes and I respect them, so I was happy to go along with a deal as long as it was the right one - but he was simply not worth £25m."

Hughes has also had an approach for Everton's Joleon Lescott rejected and is keen to land Chelsea captain John Terry. Ferguson says Terry would be a good addition. "If I was in City's shoes, with all that kind of money, then I would have a go at that," he continued. "I think it's sensible. He has experience and is the England captain. For some reason they must have known that he was interested. I am sure there have been plenty of phone calls going on."

But Ferguson still believes Hughes will have a hard time trying to make his team gel. "They have bought a lot of high-profile players but they have 10 strikers," said the Scot. "That is a hell of a lot. I have not spoken to all the managers but the one or two I have are saying 'Who are they going to leave out?' How does he pick a team? We are all interested."
