Football Talk > World Cup 2018/2022 results announced!

FIFA have announced that Russia will host the 2018 World Cup while Qatar will host the 2022 competition. Fifa's 22 executive committee members made the decision to award Russia the 2018 honour of hosting the prestigious tournament, choosing not to select the bids of England, Spain/Portugal and Holland/Belgium.

Russia will be the first eastern European country to host the World Cup in 2018. Russia is viewed as having the largest emerging market in football. A total of thirteen Russian cities will host the matches while a total of 10 new stadiums will be built in time for the event. Russia plans to invest $3.82billion in upgrading and building the world-class stadia and accommodation required to hold such a huge event.

As for 2022, Qatar were awarded with the honour. They were widely regarded as the favourites to host the 2022 tournament and undoubtedly have the funds to put on a hugely impressive tournament.

As of yet, Qatar have never appeared in the finals of a World Cup but have come close to reaching the tournament through qualifying. The hot Qatar weather will no doubt be a talking point. During June and July, temperatures can reach as high as 50 degrees.

What do you think of the outcome of the results? Were the right countries selected by FIFA to host the biggest tournament on the planet?

I believe they are good choices.

The temperature might be a bit hot in Qatar, they talked about building some indoor stadiums, right?

And Russia will be great. A beautiful country with a love for the game.

Racism in English football has been virtually wiped out. It's a sad fact that violence and racism is practically the norm in Russia.
