Football Shirts > Football Shirt News - FC Barcelona 2009 Juan Gamper Nike Shirt - 19/08/09

This is the limited edition FC Barcelona football shirt designed especially for the 2009 Juan Gamper Tournament. A one-off special game, played tonight (19th August) at the Camp Nou between Barcelona and Manchester City.

This will be the 44th edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy, a unique showcase of goals, spectacle and great teams. The Joan Gamper Trophy has existed ever since the then Club president Enric Llaudet inaugurated the summer tournament in honour of the Club’s founder, to-date the Camp Nou has hosted 136 matches in which the 63 participating teams have scored 459 goals!

FC Barcelona will wear the special kit as the team makes its official presentation in front of the fans tonight. Tonight's 44th edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy coincides with World Humanitarian Day and will be dedicated to the MÉS project that the club, Nike and UNHCR founded last December. So, instead of donning the traditional Blaugrana colours for the match in Camp Nou, Pep Guardiola's team which could include both Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Lionel Messi will play in the new shirt that will carry the MÉS logo and red shorts.

The FC Barcelona shirts of the "More than a Club" campaign worn by the players in the match will be auctioned in September on the SocialBid website, and the money raised from the sale of these and the limited edition football shirts will go to finance projects of the FC Barcelona Foundation and UNHCR, projects that promote sport and education for young and vulnerable refugees.

This special collectors edition FC Barcelona shirt celebrates the club's foundation year, as only 1899 units have been produced worldwide. And the packaging and shirt it contains have been manufactured entirely from recycled materials. This is "More than a Jersey", it's a way to support thousands of refugee children in camps to play sport and go to school.

The football shirt is on sale at the Nike mega store in the Camp Nou, the Nike store in Barcelona’s famous Paseo de Gracia 29 and the Nike Store at Ramblas number 120, also in Barcelona.

**UPDATE**  Martin Petrov scored the only goal of the game as Manchester City beat Barcelona 1-0 in a prestigious friendly at Camp Nou. The European champions dominated for long spells of the game and handed summer signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic his debut - which saw him have a late chance cleared off the line. The result means City win the Joan Gamper Trophy and it provides Mark Hughes' side with another boost after a successful start to the Premier League season last weekend.

Compared to the other classy Barcelona F.C jerseys this season, this looks strangely... Tacky and cheap. It also reminds me of the India Cricket Navy Blue Jersey:with the orange and blue. Me's??? What that? A supermarket? In my opinion UNICEF looks better on Barcelona F.C jerseys.

This jersey cost  170 US dollars at fcbarcelona.com. it cost so much because there was only 1899 made and only 89 available online. The mes' stands for a campaign that nike and barcelona is doing for kids in africa.
