Football Shirts > Football News - Umbro's Football Shirt Archive 20/03/09

In anticipation of the new England home shirt launch next weekend (28th March), we just had to share with our SoccerBible fans Umbro's quite frankly awesome collection of retro and archived football shirts.

So far, a staggering 250 shirts have been catalogued - and we've picked some of the best retro football shirts from this comprehensive archive to get you ready for the new England shirt. Umbro have a proud history of supplying shirts and kits not only to England, but a whole host of other international and club sides across the globe, so check out these:

Above: England (Away) 1964-74

Is this the most famous England shirt of all time? Well it's certainly the most successful! The shirt that won the World Cup in 1966 worn by the likes of Geoff Hurst and Bobby Moore.

Above: Brasil (Home) 1994-97

Another World Cup winning shirt from Umbro, this time for USA 94 as Brasil beat Italy on penalties. Memorably worn by Samba stars Dunga and Romario as well as being the shirt that saw the debut of Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima - the legend that is Ronaldo!

Above: Nottingham Forest (Home) 1992-94

A new era in football saw Division One re-launched as the Premier League. The first ever live televised Premier League goal was scored by Teddy Sheringham in this shirt, against Liverpool in 1992...

Above: Manchester Untied (Home) 1992-94

...and this was the shirt of the inaugral winners of the Premier League, Manchester United. Umbro's design at this time also included string through the collar (which is missing in this photo) and was worn by United stars including Mark Hughes, Steve Bruce and a new young player named Ryan Giggs

Above: Sunderland (Home) 1973

An original match-worn Sunderland home shirt from the 1973 FA Cup final, which the Black Cats won 1-0 against Leeds. The origin of this shirt and the player who wore it in that Cup Final is still a mystery!

Above: Ramapo Wildcats (Away) Era Unknown

This cool retro shirt is from New Jersey based soccer club Ramapo Wildcats - now helping youth players as the Ramapo Youth Soccer Association.

Above: Cruz Azul (Home) 2002-03

It is not just Premier League clubs that Umbro supply, as the double diamond logo adorns the 2002 home shirt of Mexican Primera Division side Club Deportivo Social y Cultural Cruz Azul - or more simply Cruz Azul.

These are just some of our favourite shirts from the Umbro archive. We'd love to show them all but there are simply too many to show here! Classics also in the archive include Paul Gascoigne's SS Lazio home shirt from 1993, Everton's FA Cup winning shirt from 1995 and a whole host of retro England football shirts.
