Football Boots > Nike Mercurial Vapor VIII Football Boots - Sail/Red

After the huge splash made by the Mango/Grey Nike Mercurial Vapor VIII, we can now bring you up close and personal with Nike's alternate colourway – designed in distinct contrast to what will be seen on the feet of Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Ozil and co. The supporting Sail/Red boot is an appropriately fresh design, ready to lead us into the Spring/Summer season!

It's a return to past designs for the Sail/Red Nike Vapor VIII, that noticeably draws inspiration from the popular White/Blue/Spark Metallic Vapor IV that hit pitches in 2008. It's a safer colour combo that won't divide boot fans quite like the Mango/Grey edition. Even so, we're keen to hear what you make of Nike's secondary Vapor VIII release!

For the 2012/13 season the Mercurial Vapor takes performance innovation to the next level with a totally re-engineered boot built for explosive speed. Nike have unveiled a boot with even better performance attributes and a striking new appearance. A series that has been at the pinnacle of the game for over a decade returns with ground breaking innovation and cutting edge technology.

Talking visuals, the outside of the Nike Mercurial Vapor VIII hosts a smaller swoosh to the previous Vapor, however no brand identity is lost as the striking new design features a distinctive swoosh on the instep of the boot as well as a visual signature on the heel, which stands out when placed on the Mango backdrop.

A sleeker and closer feel is achieved by a special toe-box reinforcer, increasing comfort around the toe. The new Vapor also features a thinner, stronger and lighter Teijin Microfiber with a suede-like finish, increasing ball control and touch as well as reducing the weight to 185g.

The Nike Mercurial Vapor VIII football boots have been redesigned to create a snug upper while locking down the foot and preventing unwanted movement, Nike's new Anatomic Last takes the fit of the boot to a new level of support and stability. This effect is enhanced by a more minimalist and softer heel counter, maximizing both comfort and fit.

The new Nike Mercurial Vapor 8 football boots deliver the ultimate in fit, touch and traction. A combination that has established the Mercurial as one of the greatest speed boots of all time. Nike recognise the modern game is played on a fine line and that one slip could be the difference between success and failure - traction is everything.

Importantly, the Sail/Red colourway will only be available in a FG plate, with Nike's newly introduced SG Pro-Plate being reserved for the Mango/Grey launch boot. Twin studs at the back of the boot allow for a quick release from the turf and the asymmetric design of the stud configuration delivers an explosive start. Sharper blades have been introduced to the Nike Vapor 8 allowing for game changing acceleration.

You will be able to pre-order your pair of the new Sail/Red Nike Mercurial Vapor VIII football boots from March 20th at selected retailers. Expect to see Nike's latest release hit European pitches from 24.03.12. The boots will retail worldwide for around £150 GBP / $220 USD / €180.

Was this supposed to be a replacement for Vapor III's? This is a total disappointment. looks so cheap.

Boots should get better as time goes by..  However seems like nike is going backwards, from masterpieces such as Vapor I, II, III and superfly I to disappointments such as these boots and colors these days.

way to go nike, way to go..

how can you call that sole plate firm ground?? That thing is gonna break as glass also that only 2 studs on the heel will kill your knee on a second.

i'm sure these's gonna be many people injured playing on these. Terrible boot on my opinion previous version where waay better constructed.

Im glad that nike have added more padding to these boots as they needed as you need to be comfortable in your boots but theyre struggling to keep up with adidas with the weight of there speed boot as the new adizeros are lighter then the vapor 8s but as the look goes the swoosh on the inside of the boot gives the boots a distinctive look but the swoosh on the front of the boot makes them look cheap :L but the soleplate on the other hand is a great improvement the stood design looks much better and improved but what has happened to the carbon-fibre you need this for elite boots in my opinion!

I believe the swoosh on the inside is to mirror the funtionality of the contrast electricity pattern on the Superfly ll/lll. That's why it is huge. I'm not a fan of the flaming heel markings but overall looks like a highly impressive boot. Finally a hybrid soleplate for use mortals. I'm looking forward to the black/volt colorway.

FulhamFTW said:

Weenerman, there is a reputable shop in my area that have them for sale and had them prior to the release. Many of the people that work there have been playing in them for a little while, and testify to the great comfort and touch. Let's not assume that you know everything before opening your mouth. Just because you don't have them yet doesn't mean other people can't their hands on them. Maybe you need better connections.

I like this a lot better than the Mango/Grey colorway but                   I am still disappointed with these colors.  The new stud pattern is very interesting and I think well designed. The big Nike down the inside of the boot is not very good yet. Nike needs to get some more noticable colors. Maybe if they can get some better colors, they will be better

they look like they are made for a super narrow foot. lightness of a boot doesnt make you faster, they ate engineering traction so a player can cut quicker, turn faster.

if these are going to be soft, they'd be the best vapors ever. vapors takes time to break in and kills the feet. stud config's the best so far. very efficient. remember guys, a 2 stud heel is also used with soft ground boots. the weight is also at par with adizero micoach. price isn't ridiculous anymore. and the pros actually uses the soleplate the publics getting... not bad.

Why are people judging and making statements about a boot they have never tried on. Wait to you get them or speak to someone that has them before you judge them. You are saying a boot sucks without even trying them out. Moving on, I love this colorway, nice and clean, personally I dislike all those eye hurting colorways

To be honest these boots are class just finished a training session in mine that got delivered a day early and they are comfy and much nicer in person. the only problem that i have found is that due to how thin they are repetitive hard strikes start to hurt your feet but its not too bad. if your thinking of ordering them you might want to order half a size down as i usually wear size 7 total 90s, but in a size 7 these have a fair bit of extra space in the toe

Material wise the Vapor VIII's are way better than any other Vapor but I simply can't get over only having two studs at the back. I would think that it would kill your feet if you were playing on Turf or on drier grass. I am sure they tested it extensively on the pro's but the pro's are all playing on the softest most lush fields in the world. Also doesn't make sense that they use 4 studs on the SG version (which is way majority of the pros wear). Has anyone worn these to say whether the 2 studs in the back are fine?
