Football Boots > Mizuno Wave Ignitus Football Boots - Yellow/Black

The latest football boot from Mizuno explodes out of Osaka in a blaze of colour and technology. Check out all you need to know about the new Wave Ignitus with the SoccerBible's exclusive feature...

Always looking to innovate and evolve, Mizuno have poured countless hours, funds and research into these new football boots, officially unveiled in time for this summer's World Cup. The boot sits in the Power category and is a genuine contender for those who want something other than the obvious adidas Predator or Nike Laser choices.

Mizuno boots have always traditionally fitted like a glove, and the Ignitus is no different. We all know the pyschological edge having the right boot gives, and having had the chance to test the Ignitus we can saw you will certainly feel confident and ready to deliver in these!

The big talking point is the Mukaiten panel, a technology unique and exclusive to Mizuno. Mukaiten simply means "no spin", so the strategically placed panel on the instep of the boot means striking the ball causes an unpredictable flight path - intended to confuse and fool the opposition and goalkeeper.

The Mukaiten panel is wrapped around by the 360 degree Bio Vamps, last seen on the Shinken series. The Ignitus boasts a much more aggressive version and with these spread over the instep and forefoot the Ignitus offers much greater control and enhanced power.

The Ignitus features a triple density heel counter, designed with the input and assistance of CSKA Moscow and Japan's Keisuke Honda. The triple Pebax density heel counter offers improved fit, comfort and most importantly improves protection from serious injury.

As we've mentioned already, Mizuno are famous for their fit and comfort - and the incorporation of Wave technology only further adds to this notion. The Wave tech improves cushioning and stability in the outsole which combined with the bladed stud configuration delivers unrivalled traction.

The upper is made from a super soft K-leather material which has been re-constructed specifically for the Ignitus. Touch and feel - two more Mizuno hallmarks - are further enhanced with this soft upper and you'll be surprised how light the boot feels. Our play test pair tipped the scales at 229g (for a US size 9) - over 95g lighter per shoe than a Predator X and 105g lighter per shoe than the equivalent K-Laser III.

Of course, weight isn't everything but this gives you an idea how Mizuno have crammed so much tech and design into such a light package! The Ignitus is the soccer shoe of choice of Manchester City and Paraguay's Roque Santa Cruz (one of the nicest guys in football by the way), who along with Honda was a key collaborator in the final design of the boot.

Available in the Far East already, the new Mizuno Wave Ignitus football boots have got us very excited here at SoccerBible HQ. The Ignitus is set for pre-order on 12th April 2010, and should be hitting the shelves of your favourite football boots retailer around a week later.

Expect to pay £110 GBP for the pro level boot, which will be available in both soft and firm ground versions.

i think they just chose this colour for the initial release in order to grab attention for the boot which has worked

meanwhile, i think these boots look (not visually) AMAZING. The tech sounds pretty decent, is lighter than both the Pred X AND Laser III (i wonder how it compares to the PWR-C?) and uses good ol' K-Leather my favourite ;) also mizuno make excellent running shoes and incorporating that same Wave technology into these boots means that you'll get plent of support. a TRIPLE density heel counter to me sounds like a bit much but i'm now very intrigued to try it out!

all in all i think mizuno have done really well with this boot and can't wait to see it at the world cup :)

i had the mizuno katanas and they were amazing, expect for the fact that the black rubber bits weren't of much use or help and also that the only real soft leather was found on their cool tongue which could hide your laces. as the rest of the leather on the boots was very thin and not THAT soft :/ hope they've done better with these as it looks more wrinkley :/ i have faith in them so i'd definitely give them a try!!

Will soccerbible be releasing the review of this boot soon? It looks really good and not to mention the weight of this pair of boots. Does the Mukaiten panel really give the extra edge when it comes to striking?

Lastly, is there carbon fibre inserted into the forefoot sole plate of the mizuno boots? it looks like carbon fibre from the fourth picture.

@Yenza

I have Shinken II's, the one up on the katana, and the leather is super thin and super soft.  I found the biopanel worked at least for spin.  I'd also like to give these a try but I've got to burn out my Shinken II's first as well as those ghost strikers that are on sale on PDS for 30 pounds.

@SoccerBoot-Maniac

The studs are similiar to the shinken II's and they work great on pretty much any ground, especially that little L-shape stud.

These sound good, but the "unpredictable flight path"  sounds like it would be only useful for a selfish, arrogant, and trigger-happy striker. I can see it screwing up passes for center-mids and crosses for outside mids, and messing up clears and down-line passes from defenders. I could not see it being useful for keepers either. Great boot for strikers, but thats about it in my opinion.

May 24, 2010 5:21 AM

wesrocks360 said:

the unpradictable flight pattern happens only when you use the makuten (idk how to spell it lol) pannel. and when you pass and cross properly it wont effect... the things all around it are to help with curling the ball

soccerfreakhjc said:

@Ham and some others..

the unpredictable flight is only when you use the mukaiten panel.. and you can control how the shot you want to hit. you can curve just as good with these and pass normally.. the unpredictable flight thing is only when you want to hit it, like freekicks (the one Honda took vs Denmark)

i think this shoe goes well on any position, but to be honest, i dont like this yellow-black colorway..

i bought this at the start of the year when i went back to japan and i can definatley guarantee you that u will love this boots.

its amazingly light, uver comfortable and the grip u gain from these studds are amazing. the studds are espacially made for sprinting and this is really helping me this season. i bought not the k leather ones but the synthetic because the shop owner said that it is more durable, receive just as good touch with k leather and its 10 grams lighter. Many people think that synthetic ones are take down model but its actuary not, both of them are made at same standards for quality players. Everything features being delivered is the same, the only difference is that the leather being used around the toes. if u cant let go of the touch of  k leather than u pick the k leather ones and if u  like the advance synthetic leather which is new made by mizuno then u wear the synthetic ones, just like choosing the ideal studs to face whatever condition u are going to be playing in.

360 panel and the mukaiten panel is also amazing aswel :D
